Idk what's "inside" about it...

This has all been announced weeks ago and discussed at length. Secondly, most of these markets already have service. Biggest one sticking out should have been MSP-LGA..

Sure jump into markets where you're brand new with a bunch of mainline equipment flooding the market with seats and increasing your exposure and guaranteeing near zero room for growth...

BHM already had LGA service...

YHZ had JFK service, now will go to LGA on Chautauqua...

MVY/ACK were all JFK served last season...

So says the "ASA" guy...

Not a single market being "served" by the "new LGA hub" is "new" to DL. No, it doesn't have to be all ML...but for crying out loud, NOTHING but MIA? Really? An RJ focus city is NOT a hub. I'll bet we can handle DEN, MIA, DFW and yee-gads, MSY, too! How funny, we were encouraged to pressure our reps to make this happen...so that DCI and contract carriers could grow. Guess I'm not feeling the love.

I mean new for DL out of LGA. Not new stations...

Well, perhaps you'll eventually get your wish on the back on when MEM/CVG finally shuts down. Personally, I say I don't know what they're waiting for. They say both (MEM CVG) are profitable but I guess the selfish guy in me wants to see more mainline departures out MSP and DTW (and LGA at some point in the future). Where you wanted them to get these planes from to route them through LGA for the new flying I don't know. Maybe you know something I don't.

BTW, don't let the name fool you. I joined this site almost 5 years ago when I was in college working for ASA. I've since moved on to bigger and better things...

If you're ever in ATL, come on over to the GO and look me up, ill be sure to give you the grand tour

I'm disappointed that MDT was not included in the new lineup, since US is dropping it's MDT-LGA service. That's typical MDT for you though.....drop a city or carrier and don't replace it.

Why? They've been running DFW-JFK consistently since the Freedom Airlines days.

US tried this route at least twice. The fact that US is ending this route in March and not July should show that it is not very profitable. Out of all of the cities that US is quitting, DL will continue to serve all but two of them. ITH and MDT. IMO, that means that both of those routes were marginal at best with a 37 seat turboprop. Both ITH and MDT will still see service to NYC with UA service to EWR.

They will keep the important cities no matter what I think. DFW, MIA, IAH, DEN CLT and other new large markets are important for the biz pax and that's the area that DL is trying to focus on out of NYC. on their conference call they said they are still beihind in yield compared to their competitors out of NYC. In order to close that gap and run on par or even ahead of the pack these routes will need to stay and hopefully grow for them.

Yes, but that DFW-JFK flight is clearly for TATL connections. With DFW-LGA they are clearly trying to break into the O&D business market. They'll give it a go right now to try and take advantage of the current situation with AA, but I think after a few months they'll decide running several RJs a day isn't worth it...

Yes, the flight from Dallas to JFK is for international connections but my point was we can't just dismiss a route for no good reason. Do you know what the average LF is on DFW-JFK? There's simply some markets you need to serve if you're going to be taken seriously. The top 10 O&D markets to NYC will stick. DFW is one of them.

Add Providence to that list. When US ends it's service, DL does not pick it up either. USAirways with a monopoly on the route, smothered and killed it with stupidly high fares, crummy equipment and a poor schedule. Southern New England passengers migrated to Acela, private limos and coaches, or the Northern fringes , to BOS. PVD will be without LGA flights, I beleive for the first time since the 30's.

At some point, I would expect to see LGA-XNA. LGA-AUS or LGA-SAT wouldn't be bad either to cut off connections via DFW/IAH.

AA currently has LGA-XNA and I don't see the market being large enough to support two carriers, especially when it'd require a CRJ-700 (at minimum) for a Delta flight.

You know, I can actually see them flying this at some point in the future. The CR7 can be routed through DTW or ATL on ASA turning LGA and doing and out and back an then Ron"ing" in XNA to turn an early morning hub flight.

Re-visiting this as I have more time to respond. First off, DEN will also be mainline. I understand your frustration but just look at the big picture for just a minute. For those not feeling to look through the other threads, here's about what the new schedule will look like based on peak departures (like many other stations, Tues/Wed/Sat usually operate on a reduced flight schedule).

March 2nd

NAS 1x MD88

March 25th

ALB 1x ERJ
BUF 4x CR7, 1x ERJ
BTV 2x CR7, 1x ERJ
DFW 6x E70
GSO 3x ERJ
SDF 1x ERJ
MHT 1x ERJ
MIA 4x MD88
ORF 4x ERJ
RIC 4x ERJ, 1x CRJ
ROC 2x CR9, 2x CR7
SYR 4x ERJ, 1x CR7

May 25th

YHZ 1x ERJ

July 11th

CLT 4x CR7, 1x CR9
CHO 1x ERJ
CLE 5x ERJ
DEN 2x 738
IAH 3x E75, 1x E70
MKE 2x CR9, 1x E70
YUL 5x ERJ
MYR 1x CR7
YOW 3x ERJ
PIT 3x CR7, 2x CR9, 1x E75
PHL 5x ERJ
ROA 1x ERJ
IAD 4x ERJ
ILM 2x ERJ

Now, let's look at this realistically. Out of all those cities, which do you honestly think could support mainline service from LaGuardia? Personally, I can only see BUF (last departure out of LGA turning the first departure out of BUF the next day), DFW (well timed mid day and late evening departure), CLT (same as DFW), IAH (same as BUF), and PIT (same as IAH/BUF).

I think it's funny that people are complaining about DL using RJs, when they are inheriting routes that US was using the same equipment *or smaller* on. At least DL isn't using Dash-8s.

This LGA expansion has been a plan/goal of DL's for years now. Nice to see it finally coming to fruition. It will be interesting to see if AA will maintain its LGA operation as is, or perhaps trade away most (or all) of the slots supporting Eagle flying in order to consolidate at JFK.

I agree few of these markets make sense with mainline.

Now I guess the real question is which of these cities honestly can support regional jet service from LaGuardia?

To me it would be stupid for AA to do that. The only reason to try and get somebody (presumably JetBlue) to trade them JFK slots for LGA slots would be to build a true hub at JFK. But if AA has little prospect of doing that, I think they're better off maintaining their current reasonably strong slot portfolio at both airports. If - hypothetically - AA and USAirways were to merge down the road, then a LGA-JFK swap would be even more meaningless - focus on PHL as the hub and maintain LGA/JFK as more O&D-focused operations.

I always dismissed the slot swap idea, but maybe it has merits.

What B6 is seeing is that you can not dominate NYC with just JFK. And as US showed us, because of the perimeter rule, you can not dominate NYC with just LGA.

If you want to play ball in NYC, you need to serve business short hauls out of LGA and leisure/long haul/international out of JFK.
