Tacv Receiving New B738s, Launching New Flights

Fri Feb 03, 2012 5:08 pm

According to the following press (Portuguese) TACV will receive 2 new B737-800 (12C/142Y) in May and June this year.
http://www.turisver.com/article.php?id=55570

And looking through the GDS seems like they are launching/boosting flights to Europe after that date.

Boa Vista (BVC)

Lisbon : 1xw B737
Porto : 1xw B737

Ilha do Sal (SID)

Amsterdam : 1xw B737
Barcelona : 1xw B737
Bilbao : 1xw B737
Lisbon : 2xw B737
Madrid : 1xw B737
Paris : 1xw B757
Rome : 1xw B737

Praia (RAI)

Lisbon : 6xw B737
Nice : 1xw B757
Paris : 3xw B737/757

Sao Vicente (VXE)

Lisbon : 2xw B737

Am I missing something to Europe?
They also need to keep 1 B757 in fleet in order to operate "long-haul" flights to Boston and Fortaleza as usual.

Yes they used to fly to MUC.

I don't know why there are no flights to Germany now......maybe they'll be resuming the route with the new a/c available.

For economical reasons- but the truth is (I guess) TUIfly is too strong, PM only in German: http://www.tacv.de/

Good to see TACV expanding, and launching international flights from the new VXE airport.

I feel they should have a focus on the Macaronesian routes...

Whats happen to the stop in GCA ? Could they launch a route to FNC ?

Does TACV still fly to BOS? If so, can someone please verify the route (the airport of departure/arrival in Cape Verde) & the days/times of the flight.

Thanks!

The schedule from OAG for February:
BOS-VXE (Sao Vicente Island) dep: 2130 arr: 0830+1 VR0693 757 10-14 Feb (Tuesday & Friday only).
In other words only two flights in the whole month of February.

No scheduled flight shown in Feb schedules to Boston from SID or VXE, however.

Maybe this time of the year it is but come Spring and Summer and it becomes a very common sight in the North ramp.

TACV states that they have a 'corporate' office in Quincy Mass -- west of the airport (the airline's web site seems to be down this morning). They could give more information on Boston departures.

TACV also does third-party booking through Liberty Travel.

Does the B737-800 has the range for a Cape Verde - BOS? Or SID-SAO?
TACV flies to BOS because PVD runway isn't enough for take-off non-stop to Cape Verde?
Cape Verde (SID) could get some tourists from SAO, distance wise is kind of the same as the Caribbean and for a Paulista pretty sure it might be cheaper to go for holidays on Cape Verde than North East Brazil.

How does TACV manage all those once per week flights? Do they fly w/ 2 crews?

Using the logic that the diaspora has never shifted in the last twenty-five years, that could have been true at one time. But then, why did VR use JFK ?

You mean GRU , right? SAO only has a 6300 ft runway.

SID-GRU is 3212 sm . SID-BOS is 3236 sm. The maximum range of a 738 is 3115 sm (according to Wikipedia) .

SAO as in Sao Paulo (IATA metro area code). As GRU is now slot restricted and for Sao Paulo - Cape Verde leisure traffic VCP could also work.

I suspect with fuel tanks and cabin fully loaded, and a 6300 foot runway takeoff, a tech stop might be a capital idea.

TACV flies to Boston currently twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays arriving at 2000 and departing at 2130. The routine is RAI-BOS-RAI (Praia, CV to Boston and back). They are operating the flight BOS-VXE-RAI this Friday and next Tuesday however.
