AZA756 Rome-Tehran - ESB stop ?

Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:54 pm

Hi I have noticed that Alitalia756 (Rome to Tehran) makes a stop in Ankara. This stop is not mentioned in the company website. Neither do they offer a flight to Ankara. AZA757 the return flight makes a stop as well. Any ideas?

I could understand the return flight making a stop (because of refusal to refuel western airplanes in Tehran), but I don't understand the outbound flight stopping.

I thought it was the other way around and that Iranian planes were not refueled in the West. There are many western carriers that fly both legs without a stop.

The aircraft makes a tech stop on the outbound sector to get enough fuel to get back to Ankara, as it cannot refuel in Tehran.
I'm positive that when European countries refused to refuel Iranian planes the Iranians did the same in retaliation.

Ciao
Joe

OK that makes sense. I wonder how they get landing permits if they can't even get fuel.
