A different feeling to the last one which I think is good (don't want to be too up yourselves), nice little story and pertinent to whats happening in London this year.

Not usually a fan of sports themes and they'll be everywhere this year but I like this advert, loads of real aircraft (no CG 747s) and it's quite fun.

Maybe they want to concentrate on their own slogan which is understandable. You do get the message at the end of the ad so it works .

Quoting JRadier (Reply 5):
Is this an add for BA or for the Olympics?

Both?

I think we will see BA positioning itself in the coming months as the airline to choose to fly to London 2012. After all they have invested more than £40 million as a "Domestic Tier 1" sponsor and will be looking for a return on that investment.

I do not know the difference between a "Tier 1" sponsor - like Coca-Cola, GE and VISA - and a "Domestic Tier 1" sponsor like Adidas, BA and BMW except that I believe the non-domestic level costs twice as much.

One benefit of sponsorship is an exclusivity at all Olympic sites. That's great for Coca-Cola. No other soft drinks company's products will be available to refresh thirsty Olympic spectator in the blazing London summer. That's great for VISA. You can leave your Mastercard at home as you will not be able to use it on-site. But its not so good for BA. There are no flights to and from the Olympic venue. Neither is it great for BMW. None of the Olympic venues will have a car sales show room. And there is no advertising on the Olympic sites over and above POS materials.

I am guessing that if you are a "Domestic Tier 1" sponsor then you can only use the London 2012 logo domestically - I have seen it over a long period on the BA UK web site but on no other BA materials. And I think it is possible that when BA roll out their 12 aircraft in their special Olympic livery in April, and their gold, torch- bearing 319 in May these aircraft will not include the controversial London 2012 logo (unless it appears on an aircraft that will be dedicated to UK domestic flights) or the even more controversial Olympic mascot, Wenlock, or the Paraolympic mascot, Mandeville..

Can anyone confirm or deny the above?

True, but I'm sure there's some deal between the official travel companies such that BA is the preferred airline.

agreed but I think it's mostly about brand awareness for them. They are providing a number of thousands of vehicles as official transports.

I love this advert! I think it seems more "fun" than their normal ones, ironically the best bit for me is when it goes from "We're ready" to "To Fly To Serve" I think it flows so well!

Plus no CGI or repainted Virgin aircraft this time!

Great ad. Cute, well done, and with an interesting premise. Shows you how much work goes in behind-the-scenes, and you'd never know it (avg. pax anyways).

British Airways did a good job choosing BBH London for all their ads. EK with their floating 77W on the other hand...

I don't think it has any direct implications/message. It just wants to grab your attention. And that it does, quite effectively.

Why does every single new advert for BA get its own thread? Every other airline doesn't get one.

Watched it several times now and its a simple, classic ad that brings a smile and makes you remember. Very well done.

Funny how short lived events (T5 opening baggage debacle) live long, ISTBC but I don't believe BA has a baggage issue now and the T5 service is as good as any.

Perhaps because we remember the days of the true classic ads, including those in the 80s with Leonard Rossiter and Joan Collins, with some special affection associated?

Even if we believe that BA can handle luggage proper and fast, we all know: LHR can't.

So, this advert is rather useless.

British Airways are known for their great advertising, even long before the 'Face' advert they had some great ones so with that kind of reputation I'm sure there are many who would be interested in threads like these for BA. Other airlines have had their threads too, Korean Air, Air France, Qantas and Virgin Atlantic have all been discussed when they've launched a new advertising campaign. I even remember when Bmi started their 'That's Bmi time' campaign and a thread was started to discuss them.

I agree with the above. Was this ad directed at great luggage handling at London Airports or BA?

I think BA has had some great ads but this isn't one of them. During a one minute ad they only show the full BA brand 6 times? This could easily have been an ad for Heathrow.

Funny that the Brazilian bag is shown starting it's trip with a green-edged (i.e. EU origin) luggage tagged marked for LHR. Of all people, you would have thought BA could have sourced the correct, white luggage tag...

Because BA are quite simply the overall best airline in the world and the one that all others look to for inspiration and leadership !

All these other 'Jack and the beanstalk' airlines i'm afraid will never capture what BA has.

I'm afraid you've either got it or you ain't.

Its a light hearted ad, making use of the small fortune they have paid to be an Olympic sponsor, if you cast your mind back, most of the memorable adverts had a degree of humour involved, people rarely remember the ones that just state facts, or suppositions at them.

Read the comments in this thread. Of course, as one would expect, they are mixed. But by far the majority have not only reacted but they have reacted positively.

What is particularly noticeable is how many a-netters have "smiled" as a result of watching the ad. A sense of wellbeing and hapiness in today's economic climate will be very positive. If the general public react in a similar way to a-netters then BA's return on their investment in this ad will be high.

What....like with some demented pilot flooring the throttle and burning rubber....mmm...not really going to sell tickets is it.

I think that with the element of a race in mind (Olympics) the bags were 'probably' the best and most humorous option to go with...rather than Captain Dick Dastardly and Mutley the co-pilot...lol

I think BA are trying to finally put to bed any doubts and dispel any lingering myths in the public's mind after T5's disastrous launch.
