INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

Not really a big surprise i guess choosing more JFK over EWR they are trying to focus more on the NYC market LGA and JFK. I wouldn't be too surprised if they added the second back for ski season though that flight fills extremely well from EWR in the winter. With the co/ua marriage i bet UA is getting more and more of the connections to the smaller mountain west airports thru DEN because of the co ff base too.

Yup, 757-300s replacing the 767-300s from LAX-HNL, OGG and KOA. I don't see any 757-300s from SFO to Hawaii, yet.

I received a call from Delta this morning telling me the service (and station in fact) was dropped effective May 1, and I had the option of getting a refund or being rebooked on AA. I had wondered if this was on the horizon because they dropped from two daily flights to one (the only DL flight to that station) between March and May. Anyway, I have been looking for this change in your weekly updates (very interesting reads each week, BTW; thank you, enilria!) but have not seen that. Did I miss it? Another unsurprising Eagle casualty. As with SAV, I honestly doubt TYS has much O&D to South Florida, and its probably much easier to connect via ATL when headed to the Caribbean and Latin America. Makes me wonder about the viability of some of these other Eagle RJ routes from MIA to smaller southern markets, such as BHM, PNS, SDF, GNV, and CHS.

I'm amazed at how threatened B6 feels by VX when they have largely shifted their network focus away from transcon flying. They are adding all kinds of Latin America/Caribbean stuff and p2p Northeast/Mid-Atlantic-Florida routes that VX won't touch with a ten foot pole.

IMO B6 waiting far too long to establish themselves at LAX. They could have entered the airport long before VX entered the picture, but only jumped in once it was clear VX was finally starting flights. They have lagged far behind the frequency of VX on all routes from LAX ever since, and as VX continues to strengthen its LAX hub and FF loyalty in the area, B6 will be hard pressed to do much of anything from LAX.

So much for MCI doing well. I get that they don't want to overfly the DEN hub, but with the p2p stuff to Texas getting cut and even DCA getting reduced, there doesn't seem to be much hope for MCI.

There's a decent O&D market between BHM and South Florida. 214 passengers each day between Birmingham and Miami (75), Fort Lauderdale (101), and Palm Beach (38) combined. According to Faremeasure.com, American carries 76% of the O&D passengers between BHM and MIA.

Saw that! Also EWR-BOS get a PMUA 757 as well. That's incredible!

It will be interesting to see how they handle the split terminal ops at BOS for the time being. While we're at it, I wonder if we will see these flights at EWR/C as well? UA does not have much space left at EWR/A.

As they are loaded in the schedule now, the BOS-EWR (early AM) and EWR-BOS (PM) flights show as operating out of BOS/C and EWR/A.

Willing to bet UA mainline will operate out of C, PMCO mainline out of A -- at Logan. I'd expect all UA mainline flights to operate out of terminal C at EWR because they only have 2-4 gates in Terminal A and there will a higher presence of UA mainline at EWR come May. Thus meaning there will not be enough room in A for UA planes.

Don't forget, UA has a crew base in BOS and PMCO does not. Better to keep the UA and CO employees where they belong until they condense into B.

This drop was already publicly announced last week. No surprise to see this long, thin Eagle RJ route go - especially after it was quickly reduced to a daily frequency after a 2x daily start.

Just more evidence that airports within 100 miles of major hubs cannot support legacy airline service. Why fly to DFW then connnect to ATL when you can drive to DEN in 60-75 minutes and fly 15 flights per day to ATL??? Add CYS to a long list of failed service at similar sized cities. Face it, the CYS airport IS DEN.

Quoting SurfandSnow (Reply 9):
Not sure about the return of MKE-PIT, maybe they are contractually obligated to do a minimum amount of MKE ERJ flying for the time being? Or maybe the airport cut them a good deal to bring it back, or maybe they need to put otherwise idle birds to work.

If they are contractually obligated to fly ERJ flying, fly MKE-GRR 4x daily. It is short, so it CANT lose that much plus there is a local market im told over over 70 PDEW.

The only reason for this is because RW and RP are shuttering the MKE crew domicile and likely their MX base as well, and this would be to get the planes to a MX Facility/Domicile. The only other logical one is IND, but PIT likely has a lot more room given the different nature of RAH operations in both locations.

So while that probably has a lot to do with it, RAH also has an operation in CMH that could fill their obligation to RHI. They only need one line for that obligation, and there are 3 scheduled to fly. So these ERJ routes are here at least through summer, and an odd line in the recent RJET presentation mentions prorate flying for F9 which seems odd given their CPA agreement. It might not be the complete end of MKE...

Southwest probably has a bit more of a presence at each end of MCI-LAS/MCO/TPA and they're okay. MCI-HOU might have been okay, then Southwest spat the dummy (maybe because Frontier dared to start MCI-LAS/MCO/TPA?).

With oil/fuel going through the roof again, I very much doubt it can support two airlines.

MCI-SEA was even funnier. I doubt that route can support three airlines.

If they don't fly it it's got to be one of the biggest cities they are flying to a WN station without WN competition and they can't even make it work all year. Even beyond that, I think US said they would fly to MEM/CVG in the joint announcement of what they planned to do with the slots two years ago. DL essentially endorsed it 2 years ago, so I don't expect retaliation. It almost borders on anti-trust, but with the approval of the slot deal DL probably just considered that small potatoes.

A lot of these reductions with EWR and IAH are not really reductions, the reason being that UAX flights from EWR and IAH, to anywhere but IAD, DEN and ORD, do not show up in OAG or Skyguide schedules.

Checking UAL.com IAH-ELP is showing 6 daily in May and June;

3 Expressjet (which shows as CO)
3 SKy west (which is UAX and does not show in OAG or Skyguide schedules)

IAH-ELP is 6 daily, 3 of which are CR7s.

Years ago this route was one 735 a day. With the 735s being withdrawn, CR7s have only 2 less F class seats than the 735s. So OO is slowly taking over IAH-ELP.

For those familiar with the territory, El Paso has been cleaned-up (no more Pop-Tarts downtown   ) and is growing dramatically -- thanks to the New Ford plant across the river.

Quoting MountainFlyer (Reply 39):
BOI is sure getting the shaft lately. They lost a lot of their Southwest flights already and it seems everyone else is cutting there as well except maybe AS.

I have noticed that. I wonder if it is local economic reasons or just bad luck. BOI-LAX was the first thing AA cancelled when they filed Ch11.

Quoting MountainFlyer (Reply 39):
Wow! Five daily direct flights to ISN, and presumably on the E120. The Bakken oil boom just keeps on getting stronger. I remember when I was a kid this route was a couple times a day on a B1900.

I had to look up where that even was. Soon enough it will be too big a market for ZK.

Quoting nkops (Reply 40):
Please forgive me if this was answered and I somehow missed it, but what airline is this??

IDK, anybody?

Quoting mariner (Reply 41):
Since Delta dropped that retaliation on those two, maybe they're doing okay.

The DOT numbers are pretty bad. They were carrying a lot of MKE and West connections. I'd say they are doomed.

Quoting mariner (Reply 41):
I don't know that it has. You said you had not seen it on a.net - I said it was there, and the poster said seasonal,.
Quoting mariner (Reply 41):
I just assume it has been dropped and will be pleased if it comes back. I thought those were your rules.

If the company did not announce it was seasonal, I would also assume it is just dropped which is sad since I said that I think it is a non-WN non-stop market. Am I right?

Frankly, even if the company said it was seasonal, I would file it under "I'll believe it when I see it".

Quoting enilria (Reply 38):
How/why would anybody like retaliation?

I dunno. Some people do like it here. Proof that their airline is king of the skies, or whatever.

Don't count me. I think it is a waste of shareholder money and aside from that should be illegal. I've said before that airline planning is run like a bunch of frat boys fighting in some moronic nerd movie. It hate it when DL does it and I hate it when B6 does it. I don't think the system should allow you to "teach the other guy a lesson" for trying to compete.

Quoting enilria (Reply 38):
So if that is the motivation, why run ERJs from MKE to PIT? The Apple charters are mainline.

I didn't say that is the motivation - I said it is happening, that Frontier will be back at PIT.

First, I don't like it when airlines (any airline) reverse a decision because it looks dumb and scares away customers, but with the ERJs going away it makes even less sense to me.

The Delta retaliation was only dropped at the beginning of February, so I dunno what DOT numbers you're working from, but - you may be right.

I'm not arguing that they will stay.

If I understand that sentence correctly, Southwest flies DEN-TUS.

I know that. You said it about PHF. I was following your rules, or tying to. I guess I failed.

There aren't many things that Frontier does that you do like, but I am not aware that the airline ever said that MKE-PIT would "never come back."

Maybe. I dunno. I dunno why it is an issue with me. All I said was that Frontier was taking over the Apple routes at PIT.
