Why Aren't The Engines On The NZ 77W Not Black?

Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:58 am

I knew there was something different between the 77W in the all blacks scheme and the A320 in the same scheme. It's taken me forever to work it out but have finally realised is in the engine cowlings!

Why are they not black on the 77W but they are on the 320?

EDIT: Sorry about the title! I'm very tired! Should read "Why aren't the engines on the ANZ 77W black?"

Could the mods possibly change it?

My guess would be to ensure easy replacement of cowls at remote stations in the event of ramp rash.

CX did a similar thing when it took control of KA -- the engine cowls on one of the fleets (I don't recall which one) was changed to the engine colour of the other fleet. This was done to simplify replacing parts (there's a picture in the database of an A330 with the "wrong" colour cowl fitted).

The lightest paint is the common grey used.Other paints are said to be heavier due the pigments used.
I may not win often, but I damn well never lose!!! ;)

It doesn´t matter if you have a porblem you just use another one you will replace or paint when you can.... Like they do with nose radoms....

I think is more related to detect leaks of hyd, fuel or oil...
