Singapore Air Show 2012

Wed Feb 15, 2012 1:27 am

It may not be on the scale of Le Bourget or Farnborough, but it's exciting nonetheless and worthy of its own thread.

As has been mentinoed, Lion Air has firmed their MAX order while ALAFCO has firmed their NEOs. BOC Avia signed for 20 C919s while Azul took their options to firm 10 E-190s.

Up next is a press conference with Enders:
http://t.co/Evia6F9I
Likely an update on the A380 situation... or something else, perhaps?

Garuda has invited the press to a press conference at 2pm. Apparently, Bombardier was also invited

Intresting choice of partner. First RR sets up shop in Singapore, now Airbus.

I have heard we will see more Airbus partnerships.

Wonder what the order were?

Aviationweek per twitter: GoAir has selected P&W to power their 72 NEOs.

The deal now gives Pratt a 51% marketshare on the NEO.

Haven't heard anything new, the reported order announcement may have been misunderstood or perhaps it's scheduled for a later time.

Is this in line with earlier predictions by Airbus, or an indication of further slippage?

It would be great if we could see some significant new plane orders before end of the week.

Every air show deserves its own thread, especially Singapore - where I spent a wonderful 3 years going to high school

With regards to the A350, I believe it's in line with their previous schedule.

So does this mean that QR is going to order some new builds now that they can convert their current A330s into frieghters?

Nice touch by the airline!

Flight / EADS via twitter report LionAir is continuing its shopping spree, having just signed up for 27 more ATR72-600s for subsidiary Wings Air. Wings Air to become largest ATR operator with 60 aircraft.

All that's missing now is their potential widebody order which they were expected to place this month

Maybe we'll still see it in Singapore or perhaps on Obama's visit to Everett this Friday.

The 787 did a flyby of the Marina Bay Sands hotel during the airshow yesterday. Some good photo opportunities:

Nice photo's thanks for the link, they only just miss out my old home on the East Coast!

I also like the shot of the window comparison to Airbus. The problem is that with Airbus you get to see outside from the air, with the 787 all you see is KPAE tarmac at present.

"Lion Air plans to commence widebody operations with either ten Boeing 787-8s or Airbus A330s in 2014 or 2015, says airline CEO Pak Rusdi."

Japan Airlines has ordered 10 Boeing 787-9s and converted orders for 10 787-8s into the -9 model.

The airline also has options for 10 more 787-9s as part of the latest deal, it said in a statement. With this, JAL has 25 firm orders for the 787-8 and 20 for the 787-9, with 20 options for both types.

The airline plans to deploy the 787-9s on medium to long haul international routes after the 2015 fiscal year, which ends on 31 March 2016.

It came as a surprise yesterday as it wasn't announced at the show and I don't believe Boeing or JAL have issued a press release. Perhaps the media got hold of it and formal announcement is still in the works... could also be one for Obama to announce in Everett on Friday.

If they're going to be using the 787 this will have to be with some leased birds as the line is backed up years past that. A330 deliveries are quite backed up but nowhere near as bad - and IT do currently have 15 on order what I can't see them taking.....

RR have won the Cebu A330 order:

http://otp.investis.com/clients/uk/r...y-story.aspx?cid=171&newsid=237213

And, while I'm at it, they announced on the first day of the show a Trent 700 order from Air Pacific:

http://www.rolls-royce.com/civil/new.../2012/120214_air_pacific_order.jsp

Two more airlines join the L-O-N-G list of Trent 700 operators.

This is Lionair were talking about. I would watch the ex-im banks in Europe and the US if i were to guess what manufacturer they order from. More important to Lionair than deliverydates and Boeing vs Airbus.

We at A.net often forget that financing and state support for it often helps deals being swung in one or the other direction.

I looked on the airshow's website but could not find any announcements.

Reason I am asking: Will we see more orders?
