Just received my monthly QF frequent flyer email and it contained the following...
"Changes to points for surcharges, fees and taxes on domestic Australian and New Zealand Classic Awards
Due to higher fuel costs, the points required when paying for surcharges, fees and taxes on domestic Classic Award flights in Australia and New Zealand are changing. For bookings from 1 April 2012, the charge will increase from 4,500 to 4,850 points. Then, for bookings from 1 July 2012 for domestic Classic Award flights in Australia only, the points required will further increase from 4,850 to 5,250 points, due to the carbon price system."
The increase in points needed to pay for the carbon tax will rise by about 8.25%.
This seems a little steep bearing in mind what we are being told by the government. Do you think this is an indication that actual "cash" paid fares will also rise by a similar amount from the 1st July?
