I saw that the other day when I visited their website. I wondered why they wasted time doing that. I for one (and may be the only one) really love the newest livery, and think that it looks great on really big tails, like the L1011. Did you see the pic of the 727? That was beautiful.

Hope Delta will paint all their L1011 aircraft in their new and beautiful livery. I've been waiting for a long time to see their L1011 in their new colours before the Tristars retire. Long live the L1011!

Aren't they due for a D-check anytime soon or at least before they retire them? That way they'll get the new paint. This has been spoken about with their 727's... Read about it here.

the L1011's will not be painted in the new DELTA colors. if anything they would have been painted in the last livery. they are going to be retired within the next 2 years.

If all goes as planned, the last Delta L1011 will be gone by August 2001. There is no reason to repaint aircraft that have less than a year left in service. The 727 is not scheduled to leave the DL fleet until 2005. Therefore, Delta will repaint many of the 727's in the new colors.

They will repaint, at the most one L-1011. Like you said, the last one will be retired next year. I think that they schedule the retirement of each aircraft according to when the next D-check is due. It is only during a D-check that an aircraft is repainted, isn't it? Remember TWA with their L-1011's? Only one of them was painted in the new livery. TWA introduced its new livery in 1995 and the last L-1011 was retired in 1997. Delta will do the same, retire the last L-1011 one or two years after the latest livery was introduced.
