Floatagiest! The TD point must have been in the middle of the runway length, why didn't the pilot go around? Pretty obvious that this was going to end up with tea and no biccies in the chief pilots office.

Yeah pretty crazy not to go around.

Even looked like there was a bit of a tailwind too.

I can´t believe that they are doing that king of PA when they´re so low....

Yes, pretty mad.... Go around is always a good option when you´re doing such a long landing.... Anyway.... everybody was OK and the plane flying again soon...

The super late touchdown is weird enough in itself, but what confuses me the most is why the PA was SO late. The pilots announcement was on *short* finals, and the FA's one was pretty much on touchdown. Almost pointless doing it then....

Wow.

When I fly, the "prepare for landing" PA announcement comes 5-10 minutes before landing. Not 5-10 seconds! This must be awful for the passengers, because many of them likely assumed the captains/fa's were running on "asian time." LOL.

The comments/laughter at the end of the video are so funny.. haha!!

*not meaning to offend anyone... people always tell me I run on asian time.

What on earth were the pilots thinking? KLO only has a 2300m runway. When you are 1000m past the piano keys and still flying... All I can say is they are vary lucky the overrun area was flat and hard. If they tried that at Congonhas in São Paulo, they would have been screwed.

Quoting migair54 (Reply 3):

LOL! No kidding! It wasn't just the landing, what's with the timing of the flight crew telling the cabin to prepare for landing??? Start a stopwatch at the beginning of the video:

00:00:05 - "Cabin crew prepare for landing"
00:00:14 - "Ladies and gentlemen, we are on our final approach... "

An eternity of floating down the runway

00:00:26 - touchdown
00:00:45 - Airplane enters the grass overrun area
00:00:50 - My new favorite YouTube contributor says "Nice landing" and laughs. Too funny.

Thank goodness everyone is able to laugh at this one after such a poor performance from the flight crew. It could have been tragic.

Talk about a flight crew being behind on the aircraft.

Quoting N14AZ (Reply 7):

Lets hope this was the underlying problem with this. If not we got some issues with said airline. Either way, the crew should be let go due to poor judgement.

DOH!...Palm trees seem to be indicating a tailwind...nothing like a "floater" to welcome you to your vacation...howz about requesting a wind check on your next excursion to this 2300m runway / sidewalk...guys?

The transition to the grass did seem somewhat smooth...perhaps due to the unique talent in the cockpit...

If you catch the windsock at 0.35 in the video its definitely a downwind landing.

Completely unacceptable lack of procedure and regard for 120 souls from a commercial flight crew.

I thought exactly the same when I first watched it, but watching it a 2nd time then as the spoilers deploy there is a definite change in "wind noise" - It's just hard to make out over the tyre noise.

Barely. Looked like a light quartering tailwind, I estimate about 5-7 knots. That's well within limits of many airline SOPs.
For the windsock to be completely horizontal the wind has to be upwards of 12 kts.

They're still idiots for not doing a rejected landing either way.

I can't open the video at work, but I have heard FA's on some recent flights do it late SIMPLY BECAUSE some guy/gal decided to get up at the last second to attempt to use the bathroom (yes on short final...)

Possible it was said to sit someone down?

Ill watch the video later

I'm amazed at how calm the atmosphere is in the aircraft despite them having overrun the runway.

Compared to the age old 767 overrun video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf18WqFoucE these passengers make a runway overrun seem as normal as a walk in the park...

All that aside, what on earth were the pilots thinking?! Sigh...

Now way was the FA PA directed at anybody, she was speaking generally. The pilot didn't even give the prepare to land until 23 seconds before touchdown! So the whole approach was totally screwed up by the cockpit crew and they were way behind the plane.

On the thrust reversers, sounds to me like they were used right away and stayed on until the plane went into the grass.

There are some airports in the world where despite the wind, landings or takeoffs must be done using one runway direction and not the other. I don't know what the procedures for this airport are, but doing a landing with a tailwind is not a lack of procedure or regard for the passengers. Failing to abort the approach and try again, that is a different stroy.

Yes, re-watching the video the timing is cross the threshold at 00:16, 12 second float to TD at 00:28 pass first end marker at 00:33; so he must have been down to 700-800m of runway.

We can laugh about it because all the PAX were able to walk away from it (though I'm not sure that we can call this a 'good' landing) but if you look at the airport on google earth once the plane is off the rough and on to the green the nose wheel would be on the perimeter road.

And QF's repeated aircraft groundings and incidents with its planes don't make Australia's Cat I rating incredible? Please. How can you conclude that 2P (which is owned by PR) has a serious disregard for safety based on that video alone especially given that it is the first incident of the new 2P?

As far as I'm concerned, this is the first overrun of a jet aircraft in the Philippines in nearly 1-2 years (the last was back in ZAM, which was minor, in 2010-2011). Blame the pilots, yes, but don't jump to conclusions because of a single incident.

Silly question here, likely but... Isn't it strictly forbidden to use electronic devices during taxi, takeoff and landing? ( I have the announcement ringing in my ears all the time as I fly at least twice every week   ).
Could the guy taping the incident get into trouble for running his camera?
If God had wanted men to fly he would have given them more money...

There are occassions that 1 is just too many. And first overrun in 1-2 years isnt that rare - whens the last time they have such an incident in the UK, foe example?
