Question Re: Air Canada Livery

Thu Feb 23, 2012 6:54 pm

Gang, I noticed on a flight recently that Air Canada paints little red lines around the "canoes" that hang from the 320/319 wings. They're visable on the part that sticks out aft of the wings (haven't been able to find a picture to post). I was sitting on the right side of the aircraft, so just assumed they did this on both sides. I have since purchased a model of an ACA 319 and it reflects this just on the right side of the plane. I also have a 319 model in my flightsim that has this on just the right side (moderators: this isn't a post about flight simming). I would have to assume this is the way it is in real life. (a) what are these lines representing and (b) if they are only on one side, why?

The red lines are there for the ground handlers. It just draws your attention towards the canoes when operating high lift equipment (container loaders/belts) in the vicinity of the C2 door. They pertain to the 320's thed most as the container loader almost has to go part way under the wing to align it with the C2 door properly.

I fuel AC A320/A319. AC Airbus have the fueling on the left side of the plane, and they do have reflectors on the canoe's on that side, however they are not red but frosted reflective green like the markings around the doors. I assume that is for the catering trucks and fuel trucks.
