UA To DOH Via Dubai

Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:52 pm

I must have missed it, but I was reading that UA was going to start flying to DOH via DXB from IAD.

However, since QR already flies at IAD to DOH and with EK set to increase the frequency between DXB and DOH, isn't this a money losing proposition? In addition, with EY set to fly from IAD also, I'm sure the competion will only increase. I'm not sure how much UA can siphon off the travelers between DXB and DOH, let alone have flyers who would want to fly all the way to DOH via DXB when they have other options.

Thanks,

To provide more color for people: many (if not all?) US gov employees are required to fly on a US carrier whenever the option exists. So they will immediately capture all of that traffic day 1.

This was already discussed at length in December. I found the thread by using the search function.

It will probably attract enough margina traffic to make it worthwhile.

Except these days, US gov employees can fly on, let's say, Air France for an entire trip and still be compliant with US government travel requirements. As long as the ticket is booked through Delta, etc....
