EuroLOT Dash Q400 Order Confirmed

Wed Feb 29, 2012 9:27 am

EuroLOT (K2) has selected Dash Q400NG for its fleet renewal. The order announced today is for 8 aircraft plus options for 12. The first aircraft are supposed to arrive by May, all eight of them will be delivered this year. Short delivery time of the new aircraft was one of the factors which secured the order for Bombardier.

Presently EuroLOT operates a fleet of 9 ATR72-200 and 4 ATR42-500 turboprops on regional (domestic and short international) flights for LOT (LO) parent compamy as well as a number of domestic flights under its own name and code (K2).

Nothing on Bombardier's website yet, but congrats to them and EuroLOT - up to 20 x Q400 is a pretty good order.

The WBJ-article writes that the Q400 will have 82 seats... must be a typo... or will they replace the forward cargo compartment with 4 seats?

Great news for Eurolot and Bombardier!

I read somewhere that the entire ATR fleet will be retired next year, so I would assume that Eurolot will convert at least another 6 Q400NG's to firm orders fairly quickly to replace all of the current ATR 42/72's.

I haven't heard about the ATR fleet retirement, although I wouldn't be surprised. Some of the 72-200 aircraft are over 20 years old and showing a lot of wear. On the other hand, they just got two second-hand ones from CSA, also 20 years old.

One of the points in the announcement was that the Q400 can be boarded at jet bridges. Do you know of any European airline that uses jet bridges for Q400 boarding? Over in the U.S. Colgan and Horizon probably do.

Good news for BBD if they can secure the WS order the Q400 program would get a good boost in the arm.
