Has Anybody Flown On Fly540 From East Africa?

Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:28 pm

Has anybody flown on this airline from East Africa?

There are no photos of any of its planes in the Database but it seems to be a growing player in the region with a fleet of 12 aircraft and good list of destinations. Seemingly they want to expand into Angola and west Africa.

Has Anybody Flown On Fly540 From East Africa?

I just flew them a few times last week.
Zanzibar-Mombasa-Nairobi on their CRJ
Nairobi-Kisumu-Eldoret-Nairobi on their DC-9-14 !
They are nice and friendly, I got a ride in the cockpit of the DC-9 when I told I especially booked that flight to fly on one.
Although they present themselves as low cost, they serve softdrinks and sometimes sandwiches / cookies on their flights.
They are cheaper then others on international routes, but domestically inside Kenya it's not all that different.
They have a but a hodgepodge fleet, one DHC-8, one F-28, one DC-9 (both from East African Safari Express who flies them to Somalia but they wetlease them to Fly540 on other moments), a few ATRs (but I didn't see them in Kenya), one F-27 for cargo etc. ATR sometimes had problems getting paid for their ATRs, so not sure if they are the next growth powerhouse. Also at the flight in the cockpit I noticed some typical problems like an argument about paying airport fees and an overbooking. Any other questions welcome. I'll try to do a Trip report in the weekend.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

I should hope so: they're in the business of transporting people.

There's a trip report covering a flight on 540:

Africa 4: Fly 540 ZNZ-DAR. On Orange Zanzibar-Dar (by gabrielchew Feb 9 2012 in Trip Reports)

Wish I could take credit for it but I haven't been to Africa, yet.
