B6 To Launch FLL-BOG

New 1x daily service begins 5/7. Two things:

1.) I thought Colombia frequencies were severely limited. How did B6 manage to get this authority?
2.) MCO-BOG is staying, which is very surprising considering there is hardly any O&D between the two cities. Perhaps the JFK/BOS connecting traffic is strong enough

Please!!!!!!!! there are so many routes in C. America that are so ripe for service from B6

They got this a while ago and asked to delay it several months, until now. I think both NK and B6 got an additional daily FLLBOG. Interesting that B6's roudntrip offers next to no connectivity southbound.

The US and Colombia recently concluded on OS Air Services Agreement. Even though it will enter into force in 2013, Section Two of the Annex of the Transitional Provisions states: "c. Effective January 1, 2012, airlines of the United States may operate up to a total of one hundred thirty-three (133) weekly round-trip frequencies on frequency-restricted routes" (FLL - BOG is a restricted route pursuant to letter e. of the same Section). Although I do not have the figures at hand corresponding to the actual used capacity, I believe B6 is using these new frequencies.

US and Colombia are going into open skies next year. Also, frequencies are far from limited since 2010.

Actually, MCO-BOG is a very healthy market showing how AV and B6 can both survive and make money on it. There is a lot of traffic going to MCO form BOG.

B6 MCO-BOG is served with 320 at this time.

Let me put the full schedule on the intended B6 FLL-BOG:

B6 1557...........FLL 08:01...........BOG 10:40............Daily...........320
B6 1558...........BOG 11:35.........FLL 16:23..............Daily...........320
Effective: May 07th

It would operate earlier as compared with NK FLL-BOG-FLL

Its always on a 320 and its pax only. We have so many weight and balance problems as it is we don't do cargo. MCO-BOG is a thru flight from JFK.

NK briefly upgraded its FLL-BOG route to a 320 over the peak of the winter travel season, and the return flight was plagued by weight and balance problems nearly every day. The aircraft would routinely come in 30 minutes to 2 hours late, which would cause hell at the ticket counter when customers were informed that their connecting flights had departed without them.

As it is, the present schedule only gives customers about an hour to clear customs, at a time when five or six international flights are all arriving at the same time. With B6's flight arriving more than an hour before that evening rush starts, passengers should be able to breeze right through.

In February, NK's FLL-BOG went back to a 319 and the on-time performance of the return flight has significantly improved: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/NKS400

Correct; the outbound flight is numbered as B6 1783 into JFK-MCO-BOG. That will not happen with the intended B6 FLL-BOG which is due to start on May 07th.
Thus, we can establish that JetBlue will operate two non-stop and one direct flight linking Colombia and the United States.
