Air France To Start A380 Service To SIN

Wed Mar 07, 2012 8:26 am

'Starting 02 April 2012, Air France will offer A380 flights three times a week (substituting the introduction of additional flights in May) and B777-300 flights four times a week.'

Operating days ex-SIN are as follows:
02 April - 03 June: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday
04 June - 10 June: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Sunday
11 June - 28 October: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday

More information: http://www.airfrance.sg/SG/en/local/...geur/destination/A380launch_sg.htm

This is great news - AF becomes the fourth A380 operator to SIN after SQ, QF and LH. This product will make them a much more competitive option on long flights to Paris and beyond.

I don't know if I will ever understand AF's deployment of the A380. It seems it has been deployed to a dozen cities already and talks are that it might be deployed to ATL in the future. I flew to DXB recently with them expecting the A380 and was instead thrown onto a 77W because they deployed it somewhere differently that day. Anyone have any insight into the variability?

Indeed Air France's announcement should always be taken with a pinch of salt ... its Singapore office previously announced that SIN will be the second A380 destination after Tokyo-Narita ... but that just did not happen.

So now, it is better to see what happens ... does this now mean that Air France will retain its existing daily frequency - and not increase to 10x weekly as previously announced - with the A380 operating 3x weekly and the B773ER operating 4x weekly.

Anyway, I am happy to see Air France bringing the A380 to Singapore because its yield and loading on this route is actually quite good.

AF desperately needs to add capacity on its CDG-SIN route ... But AF also has to reduce costs and save momey. Using the A380 to provide this extra capacity makes sense for the moment as it is a less costly solution than adding a second flight 3 x weekly.

Concerning the A380, AF is now seriously considering to operate it on CDG-ABJ at the end of this year ... ABJ being one of AF's most profitable route. Talks have started with the airport authorities to see how they could accomodate the whale there ...

Yes. forgot about that one.

So that puts the total A380s required to operate all these routes to at least 8. Meaning AF should get at least 2 more A380s delivered by June 2012.

I'm not so sure about this, so far NRT has been serve by 773, while I was boarding CDG-JFK, there seemed to be fewer passengers going to NRT, even less so than VN to SGN. This was Sat BTW, in fact they couldn't even fill 773.

Even AF 005/006 use 773 on certain days (Tue-Thur), perhaps AF should list the aircraft EQV like CX.

With 8 frames by the end of the year, the (regular) schedules may look like this:

CDG-JFK X 1
CDG-IAD
CDG-YUL
CDG-DXB (I believe IAD isn't served daily either by A380 [neither is DXB] so those 3 take 2 frames) X 2
CDG-LAX
CDG-JNB (those 2 take 3) X 3

finally, the 7th and 8th frames might/could go for
CDG-SIN - 3 weekly
CDG-ATL - daily
CDG-ABJ - ???

There 's no plans for AF to start flying with A380s as it 's competitor are not using them.

Waouu, AF A380 to Abidjan, Ivory Coast??? That's a news!!

Knowing very well this airport (very modern terminal, one of the best in West Africa), I doubt the taxiway could allow ground operations for such a big aircraft, even if the past AF was operating the B744 and now the B773ER.

The 7th & 8th aircraft will be used to start LAX, restart NRT, and SIN for the S12 schedule.

W12/13 should see GIG and could see ABJ as I mentionned above. PVG is also scheduled but subject to Chinese Gov. approval.

The 9th & 10th aircraft are due to be delivered in March & April 2013, while the last two airframe are postponed from 2014 to 2015.
Note that AF will also take delivery of 3 new B77W in April/May 2012.

To FlySSC a question: why this decision of AF to decrease the offer in J- Class to MRU by using a COI B77W with only 14 seats in J- Class?
MRU can support J- Class as there is a real demand (cf. EK selling even F- Class between DXB and MRU)?

The Alize Cabin will be sold as Premium Economy? Or as Alize product?

I also heard about the decision to change the Premium Economy seats, not comfortable at all for night flights?

Do the COI 77W will have new seats in J- Class?
