Hi all, in looking at aerial photos on Google Earth of Madrid's Barajas airport, I had a few questions about the (now disused) 18/36 runway:
- When did this runway close? It was being used for takeoffs when I visited MAD for the first time in the summer of 1998. Obviously I know why it closed (to make room for the new Terminal 4) but I wasn't sure when it was deactivated.
- Was it ever used in conjunction with the newer north-south runways?
- Was it just used for takeoffs to the north, or did it handle landings from the south as well? It looks like landing aircraft would pass low over some areas of San Fernando de Henares, which I can't imagine would be too popular.
