Is JAL Still Starting BOS-NRT On 4/22?

Tue Mar 13, 2012 3:04 am

Just wondering if anyone knows if JAL is still beginning their 787 service from BOS to NRT on April 22? Haven't heard anything about it lately.

Yes. Likely using a 77L

Japan Airlines, which has 45 787s on order, expects to have its first in place when it starts service from Boston to Narita International Airport on April 22, but will use a 777 as a backup. The airline will operate four flights per week until daily service starts June 1.

You mean 77E ? JL doesn't have any 77L.

Is JL leasing for this or will it rather be a 77W as JL doesn't have the 77L in its fleet.

Right - 77E. I saw "777-200" and just assumed L...

If the 787 hasn't been delivered to JAL at least a month before service starts, I'd expect the 777 as well. It also means more seats than expected for those who want to be on the inaugural flights.

I think more people will want to have fewer seats if it's a 787

In that case, 777-200ER most probably since they 77W fleet is used very intensely on the current routes already

Either way it will be awesome to see a JL plane here, and a 772 which is not the most common type here either. IIRC, only BA flies the 772 into BOS. BOS seems to be an A330 wasteland, as far as heavies are concerned
