FAA TFR For ATL Vortac Friday 3/16

I see the Mr. Obama is visiting Atlanta tomorrow for a fund raiser and have a TFR from AOPA in my email. According to local news he will be visiting Tyler Perry's studios in Southwest Atlanta.

Any guesses if he will use ATL, or MGE for that beautiful 747-200. Would love to watch is land but spotting around MGE is nearly impossible. Any guesses?

It sounded like ATL on the traffic report but they would not say for sure. I have a great view from my office at the Galleria, but I chose to work at home because of the nightmare traffic!  
Landing on every Continent almost on an annual basis!

Considering he's going to Buckhead and the Perry Studios, ATL would make more sense logistically.

It's a long, long way from Dobbins all the way to the south end of the south part of the city.

(Anyone not from ATL really can't understand just how spread out stuff that is still considered "Atlanta" actually is)

He is coming in to ATL. When Bush would come in he would use MGE but his "base" is more on the north side of Atlanta and MGE made sense. Since he is going to Tyler Perry Studios and Tyler Perry's home for two separate fundraisers, he is using ATL. Scheduled to land at 5:30

It does shortly prior to landing and until potus is off the airfield. Only 15-20min but thats enough to throw a wrinkle into the traffic flow. Last time I saw this fiasco was at JFK on a Friday at 1700 from T4 IAT ops control...mostly DL backups then.

It most certainly does. I flew ATL-LAS back in October. We were due in 15 minutes early but had to hold for Obama. Ended up blocking in an hour late from our scheduled arrival time, making us 1:15 late. The 4 hour flight turned to 5:15.

Got a phenomenal view of the Hoover Dam from 9,000 feet though. It was neat the first and second times. The 8th time was a little old...

I have come to the realization that many members of this site have an extremely limited view of what an airport is, and it saddens me. The airport is NOT just a long piece of pavement where airplanes land and take off. There is also ground transportation (taxi's, rental cars), concessions inside the terminal, airline, fueling, catering operations. Staff inside the airport that clean the carpets. So when you say the airport "shuts down", are you talking about the entire airport? Or are you talking about the airfield, taxiways and the airspace? Let's think about what we write in these forums for longer than the 1 second it takes to make an incorrect generalization.

Makes sense. ATL must be different since the footprint is so big and traffic on the south side is several miles away from the north side.

I agree with Chris. I *personally* think the poster's comment above had no point *IMO*. It's obvious that when we say the airport was (or was not) shut down we're talking about a/c movement. Whether in the air or on the ground. At least that's what came to my mind. I wasn't thinking for a minute it also meant no one was allowed in or out the ap, taxis stopped running, shuttle buses, catering, fueling, loading bags, and whatever else which seemed like nonesense really.
