DIRECT AIR UPDATE
As you probably know by know by now, RFD has entered into an agreement with a carrier, Vision Airlines, top provide non-stop service between Rockford and Ft. Myers, Florida (not Punta Gorda) beginning this Monday 3/19. Flights will occur once a day on each Monday and Friday beginning 3/19 through April 30th. Upon final approval from the Federal Department of Transportation tomorrow morning, Vision Airlines at www.VisionAirlines.com
will be able to take reservations for these flights.
I apologize to the passengers scheduled to fly tomorrow, Friday 3/16 for not being able to get this deal in place in order to assist you. Finding an airline, negotiating, and getting DOT approval, created a situation where we just couldn't get it done in time for Friday.
If RFD sees a demand, greater than the seats scheduled for these flights we will add additional flights. Because of federal regulations I am unable to share with you the specific fares tonight that will be charged, until the DOT/FAA gives us final approval tomorrow morning which we have been assured will happen. That being said I can tell you that the round trip fares will be below $300.00 and the one way fare will be below $150.00.
Please understand that in order to keep these fares down in an attempt to help out our flyers and customers, RFD will be exposed to costs for operating these flights. Our board and the staff here have all agreed that this is the right thing to do under the circumstances. And we are proud to be able to offer some assistance and relief to those stranded as a result of this very unfortunate situation. Again, we're very sorry that we are not able to assist everyone in each of their individual circumstance.
I want you to know that out of seventeen (17) airports served by Direct Air to the best of our knowledge only RFD and Springfield, Illinois have come up with this type of option offering alternative flights. RFD received official notice from Direct Air at 12:52pm on Tuesday, March 13. In 52 hours RFD found a carrier, negotiated a deal, and got to a point where we are now able to offer service and relief for our customers. I'm very proud of the RFD Board and our Staff in the way that they have responded to our customer's crisis and emergency. Finally I need to thank the folks at Vision Airlines for their quick response to our needs and the Federal DOT and the Staff there for the assistance in helping to expedite the process.
