New MKE-BKG Service Starting Up

Sun Mar 18, 2012 5:17 am

Kind of a strange addition, anyone got any information as to what aircraft this company has? And forgive me if this has already been posted but I didn't see anything about it in the forums.

http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee...e-branson-flights-to-be-based.html

"Flights between Milwaukee and Branson, Mo., will be based at Signature Flight Support at General Mitchell International Airport when they launch May 11.

The flights will be marketed as public charter flights by Branson AirExpress and operated from Corporate Flight Management, serving Signature's operations at 923 E. Layton Ave., not from the Mitchell International terminal, the firm said Friday. Corporate Flight Management, a direct air carrier based in Smyrna, Tenn., is celebrating the launch with $99 introductory fares, one-way, through March 27.

The new non-stop service will operate four days per week — Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday — between the Mitchell and the Ozark Mountains resort community. Airport officials have said the flights are a popular seasonal route for Milwaukee travelers."

From their web site looks like a British Aerospace Jetstream J32 or J41 commuter turbo prop.

Well I wonder how long this will last, even though I think F9 actually did pretty well on the route recently.

Between the equipment, the name and the base at MQY, I assume there's some sort of connection to 3C?

none. Well... the Howell family is involved - Great Lakes current president - Chuck Howell - came from Corporate/RegionsAir back in the day and I believe CFM is owned by one of his brothers.

What is the demand from MKE to BKG or SGF? Couldn't that be filled in with a G4 MD-87?

There isn't a lot of demand, as Airtran found out originally and Frontier in its first season.

But - the Branson authorities like the route and subsidize it fairly heavily. They asked Frontier to come back for the second season, with subsidy, and loads improved a lot when the BKG-AUS leg was added.

I doubt it could support a mainline aircraft.

Riding an old 19 seater - BAE 3100 Jetstream in the hot summer thunderstorms, sweating bullets - no thanks, I'll drive! Maybe all the gambling grannies that use the busses from here to there can't hold it that long...or stand those dirty bathrooms on the back of the bus!

FL started daily MKE-BKG service in May 2009 but scrapped it after just two months. In other words, this won't last.
