B6 BOS-SJU

Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:54 am

Does B6 really run a BOS-SJU run that leaves Boston at 11:45 and gets into SJU at 3:45 am? Is this flight popular? That seems like odd flight times.

It seems popular. They fill up and it utilizes otherwise idle aircraft. They also run flights to Santiago, DR & Santo Domingo, DR overnight as well.

At one time a number of years ago, CO had a flight with similar times on EWR-SJU, and it turned around and returned to EWR at an awful hour as well. But no longer. In general B6 has eroded CO's position in the EWR-SJU market. Correction: Now UA.

For some destinations flights at odd times are feasible even while not considering the aircraft scheduling issue.

I remember when Eastern Airlines had their "moonlight special" A-300 flights that departed very late at night at lower fares but with no checked baggage allowed. The flights were primarily for cargo but they figured they might as well sell the seats if people were willing to have carry-on baggage only. And Air France has operated a B744 from Boston to Paris that departed close to midnight long after all the other European flights had left. I see that this year the Air France flight will be leaving at 10:55 PM instead. I suspect that plane carries a lot of cargo too.

I remember taking that flight from SJU to EWR in May 2006. Looked like half the passengers were partying the night out and had just left their nightclubs and went straight to the airport.

The flight left SJU at around 3:30 am, IIRC, and got into EWR around 7. The moment the f/as turned off the lights, everyone - and i mean everyone - was asleep - albeit short, it was a dark and quiet flight.

There are those of us who like to maximize the time we spend on our vacation - so this flight sure fit the bill.

Best,

Been there ...done that.

Have done it an number of times on the early TA milk PTY-SJO-SAL-GUA....you have to be at the airport so god awful early that it was better just to party the night away in PTY, go back to your hotel take a shower then go straight to the airport.
When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

You were too kind. The ones on CO SJU-EWR flight did not go back to the hotel to shower ....it was far too late (or early) in the day to complain about bo
