EVA Purchases 3 More 77W's (?)

Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:37 am

http://news.cens.com/cens/html/en/news/news_inner_39636.html

The article is suggesting that Eva committed to three more 777-300ER's for growth purposes. But the website seems to not know its wisdom claiming the 777-300ER is the "now the world’s largest long-range, wide-body twinjet aircraft, from Boeing in 2005," they must mean the 77L. I also remember EVA bought some 77W's last year, were these options they converted?

They also mention them acquiring another MD-11, and also them buying three backup engines for their A321's.

Could we trust this website?

The 777-300 family are the largest widebody twins in service today and the 777-300ER is a long range aircraft, so the statement is factually correct.

The 777-200LR is the longest-ranged widebody (twin) in service today.

As for BR ordering more planes, this sounds like an order they intend to place (so it would be at the MoU stage right now).

Boeing has not recorded a new order since 23 February and while they do have 10 UFO 777-300ERs on the books - including 1 on 30 September and 2 on 31 October - I expect none of them are for BR and this will be a new order when it is signed.

BR was an original 777-200LR customer (3), but they converted them to 777-300ERs.

Do they have any routes that are so payload-restricted on a 77W that a 77L is better?

The 77L was introduced in 2005, the 77W was introduced in 2004. I think they just mixed up the planes.

Nice to see the 777 rolling in some more orders. Good solid plane built by the giants from Boeing!

Flightglobal picked up the story, I guess it has been bumped up to seven 77W's!

Interesting piece of information at the end of the article:

Quote:
The carrier's plan is to grow its fleet to 100 aircraft by 2014.

Eva now operates a fleet of 59 aircraft comprising 15 Boeing 777-300ERs, 14 Airbus A330s, seven 747s, nine 747 freighters, six MD-90s and eight MD-11 freighters.

This indicates that another order should be forthcoming...possibly for more A330s?

We have 59 aircraft listed here, with (12+6) A321 on order, the orders are still some 15 aircraft short of the goal, and that doesn't take into account the retirement of the 11 MD-90 and four 74M mentioned in the article.

According to the Boeing O&D, EVA has no outstanding orders, Airbus is showing the same (so the A321s are all leased?)

Their A333s are leased and most recent CI A333 deliveries are from lessors too.

Yes, it's been a very good year! Ten from China Southern a few weeks back, these seven and now, just two, two more from TAAG of Angola. And I doubt if those will be the last; CX, AA or some other operators will no doubt add a few more.

Not to nit pick, but Taag Angola is purchasing 3, not 2.
