New Iberia Strikes

Tue Mar 27, 2012 1:45 pm

Pilots have just announced 30 new strike days, every Monday and Friday from 9 April to 20 July to protest against the launch of Iberia Express.

It is estimated that each strike day is costing Iberia 3 million euros. Doesn't bode well for the coming high season of late Spring and Summer holidays.

These pilots should get a reality check! When is WW gonna react?

Also general strike in Spain on March 29. Thus, the whole day chaos at Iberia calling centres and confusing messages on their website. I hope Iberia Express will be a success as with the regular Iberia there is no hope of redressing.

Have to agree their. IB Express is here to stay. All they are doing is loosing the company that pays them money, upsetting and disrupting the people that pay them, and causing harm to the brand.

I forgot to explain my case: I have a flight for March 29 via Madrid. The initial duration was 4h50'. This morning they sent me a message with a new proposal; new duration (believe it or not): 36h00' (sic). Obviously I had to refuse and find a solution, but their call centre was almost out of order and it took me a century to get through. To summarize my feelings about Iberia right now would be... a kind of chainsaw serial killer in action.

This is madness.

Without Iberia Express, Iberia's short-haul network will simply shrink and IAG is not going to back down on this.

The minimum agreed number of flights for this general strike (which affects all airlines anyways) is much, much smaller than in regular IB strikes by its staff. Therefore, it is expected that your re-scheduling is of a worse nature than what one would initially expect.

Even if you are booked in a non-Spanish airline, chances of being delayed are quite substantial given the reduction in airport staff.

They're shutting down the two highest RASM days? Oh, that's going to help them long term.

This is very Eastern...

That wouldn't cause anyone to avoid a business trip to Spain...

I support the right to strike. This is just counter-productive.

This reminds one of those teenage girls who cut themselves, thinking that other people will be impressed.

...No! We like you. Please don't cut yourself.

Why protest IB Express? Lower wages?

IB might fall.

Iberia's rebookings and cancellations are insane.

Maybe this will expedite, Iberia Express to even grow faster and higher all SpanAir's crews.

Agree, all this may do is simply make IBX ramp up operations faster!

Yes, as far as I know, much smaller wages. Mind you, not because the new ones will be low, but because the current ones are way too high.

Ooops!! And HIRE all SpanAir's crews!!!

It's interesting how all this is going. It's very bad noise all over for IB's brand in general.

Apparently the pilots are concerned this will bring about job losses. If they're not going to use their right to strike over the future of their job when can they strike?

Unfortunately, this is a metaphor for the whole Spanish economy which will have another terrible year of negative growth, more cuts in spending, etc.
