I've flown MD-11s twelve times a year for four years (1995-1999) and since last last MAy (1999-2000) the same frequency has been flown on Delta's 777s.
The MD-11s and 777s are exquisite in BusinessElite no matter which airplane you're on. Service, seats, everything is superb.
The 777s in Coach have less legroom (noticeably less) than the MD-11s - the MD-11s have 34"-33" pitch and the 777s have 32"-31" pitch in Coach. If you get the Bulkhead rows (30A-J, 42A-G & 43H,J) then the space is ample and it's a good flight. IF you're in any other seats, it can be bad. The MD-11s have greater seat pitch but less comfortable seats and no PTVs. (if you care about such things... I know I don't...)
Delta's Coach class service is mediocre, with good food (they improved it a LOT a couple of months back) on international flights, and relatively good coffee (see other topic) - for an airline - and the crews tend to be friendly enough, especially if you are nice to them and joke around. I tend to go back and talk to them sometimes (they either make rude comments, jokingly, or join in the fun...) and they are usually friendly. YES you get ice-creams during the films nowadays, and they are pretty good Dove bars too!
