This is what the Denver stations are reporting. No mention of approach lights - declared emergency due to smoke.

DENVER – A commuter flight from Peoria, Illinois made an “emergency landing” at Denver International Airport Tuesday morning after smoke was detected in the fuselage.
ExpressJet Flight 5912 operating as United Express landed at 8:30 a.m. without incident, according to an ExpressJet spokesperson.
All 19 passengers were transported to the airport terminal by bus. One passenger requested to be transported to a hospital.
Denver was the flight’s scheduled destination.
The source of the smoke was not immediately known.

Weird. The article on AvHerald mentions another crew observing the landing and describing it as "hard", this crew, as the guy in the control tower, had the impression of the approach lights being hit... I guess is just too soon and we must wait a few hours to have some first hand information...
Glad to see nobody was injured neither in the incident with the smoke/landing or in the evacuation process.

The CA couldn't see the PFD with his head anymore than 12 inches away. He had to fly the approach with his head over the yoke.

They sensationalize the story making it seem (once again) that controllers are willfully putting lives in danger. I think I'll wait for the NTSB preliminary report..
