Belgrade airport announced yesterday their passenger numbers for March 2012. During the month, a total of 216.025 passengers used the airport which represents growth of 14% when compared to March 2011, when it handled 188.826 passengers.
Belgrade airport recorded 20% growth in passenger numbers in January, while February numbers were more modest, due to numerous snow storms, when 7% growth was recorded.
If this trend continues then we can expect to see Belgrade airport enter the list of Europe's 100 busiest airports.
In 2011 Belgrade airport made €13.6 million profit which is considerably less than the previous year because Jat Airways had not yet settled its bills. Once the national carrier does so the profit is estimated to be greater than €20 million.
BEG and SVO rank as top airports by passenger growth in Eastern Europe. In 2011 Belgrade airport handled a total of 3.124.000 passengers which represented growth of 16% year on year.
