This finally puts to rest of all that conventional wisdom that EWR-LHR flights are worthless compared to JFK.

It's no JFK, but it's no slouch either.

Now, when would UA finally upgrade their EWR lounge already?

Also of note. Y+ gets same main courses as club world. This is a big benefit to club world as every cw pax should now get first choice of entree. It should be Y+ where the choices might run dry.

I don't think BA have ever downplayed EWR.

It's common knowledge this side of the pond that EWR provides great access to NYC.

I think people just attach kudos to JFK for whatever reason.

I guess when you're comparing it to other UA lounges, it's up to par.

But comparing it against foreign carrier lounges at NYC, it's so far behind it's not funny.

And I'm saying this as a star gold tier.

Is the new lounge on the upper level of the structure that was built between B1 and B2?

The terminals are connected by an airside shuttlebus. It runs from C71, to A28. Why would UA need a stop at B?

Interesting to note, Simon Talling-Smith says BA will be investing £5 Billion in new aircraft (amongst other upgrades) within the next five years. Any ideas as to what BA might order? I'm presuming he means long haul replacements for the 744 fleet.

I think you can say that for just about every US airline lounge.

From an appearance and ammenities perspective the main EWR UA club is up there. But even for as large as it is, it often becomes extremely crowded. US airlines offer little in food options at clubs. The bar setup isn't half bad.

There are some photos here;

The lounge is in the new expansion area, looks like the second level. Some other airlines are getting new lounges in the area.

If its a joint Star F lounge, it needs B access. Although in theory they could drive customers to their B flights from a C located lounge in Cadilacs similar to the MUC and FRA and ZRH services. Have all Star F checkin in a privat area of C...

Its only on here with motives and people that dont fly often that poo poo and put down EWR. All frequent travellers know it has just as good train access and better many times of day traffic conditions to manhattan. Its a good move for BA to protect its operation and keep the high paying customers happy

EWR for UA is certainly one of the most valuable hub properties in the world certainly higher value than DL, AA or B6 at JFK or DLs new LGA operation

Not clear that they need to. UA has many international arrivals at B, but then those passengers get disgorged on the ground side after Customs and Immigration and just as well can take the ground side monorail to the other terminals. UA has no domestic arrivals or any departures from B.

Is BA's EWR check in still downstairs?

Until the renovations are complete. The new domestic check in (mid level, former baggage level) will be finished this Summer. After that the upper, International, ticketing level will open. The Port Authority just awarded the last project in the terminal B renovation, the rebuilding of the International arrivals meet/great hall. Everything should be done by September 2013.

But again I was talking of all Star flights and an F lounge.

Ultimately one answer is what I've mentioned before. Having all Star international departures from C, building a new Star lounge there, and having more UA international arrivals in B.

This is a much-needed improvement. The old lounge at EWR was small, crowded and claustrophobic, while the new one looks spacious and comfortable. I often fly BA CW out of JFK--they are my favorite airline across the Atlantic--but the one time I tried EWR I was so disappointed I've avoided those flights ever since. The preflight dining area was particularly grim--on my one visit there was actually a rat running around between the tables! While I still prefer the 744s at JFK to the 767s/777s at EWR, with the new lounge I'm much more likely to give BA's EWR flights another try.

I had heard from someone at the Port Authority that Virgin Atlantic was relocating their club to the new structure where the BA lounge is now located. If so, that will open up a chunk of space on the main level for more retail concessions. It's pretty slim pickings right now.
