B787 Coming To LHR on April 27th

Fri Apr 06, 2012 7:08 pm

We at BA have been told a B787 is coming in to LHR on the 27th April.
On its visit it will be shown off at the BA Maintenance Base for familiarisation with
our Engineering and Ground Staff.
No other info at the mo but i presume it will carry out other Airfield functions and
be just a day visit?
Missed it at Farnborough a couple of years ago so looking forward to its arrival, should be a great sight!!

Has BA ordered the 787? I haven't heard anything about potential orders. Seems like it'd be a good fit for BA

What airline will be flying a B-787-8 to LHR? Will it be Japan Airlines? Are ANA planning to start a service?

I am happy to hear that LHR will get a visit from that beauty airplane. All the A380s on the tarmac will frown when they see her. They will be green with envy looking at her gracious silhouette.

I can tell you one thing. I was at Farnborough two years ago to see the 787. It was love at first flight. I knew I would be on one as soon as they would start service (ANA We Fly First) and I made it happen.

ANA 787 Dreamliner HND-FRA Inaugural - Part 2 (by MadameConcorde Jan 27 2012 in Trip Reports)

The B-787 is as much a pleasure to fly on as it is to look at, especially with the expert on board service delivered by ANA cabin crew. Those flexed wings are quite amazing!

It would be for BA. 787 tour's next stops includes Moscow, Istanbul, Madrid, and London.

BA is looking at getting delivery of the 787s in 2013 last I heard.

BA placed a firm order for 24 B787s along with an order for 12 A380s.
The order also included options on another 25 aircraft (mostly 787s i understand)
These will replace their fleet of B767s and B747s.
Also in the rumour mill is BA looking at potentially more 77Ws in addition to
the few options they have. Just a rumour though i quote!!

Yup loads on the way. First one due to arrive early 2013 and enter service around the same time as the 380s!

Haha sorry I haven't kept up with orders until quite recently. But I'd be interested to see what routes it'd fly. I have a strong feeling JFK and LAX will get some routes...perhaps the daily to PHX might be replaced by a 787? (I hope not, it's awesome seeing the 747 fly over my apartment every day)

I have some photos of the 787 on the ground at LHR. Unfortunately they are taken from inside a BA 767 whilst we were taxiing to the runway so are not brilliant. She followed us to the runway and I presume took off after us.

If only I could work out how to post them...

She is a terrific-looking bird. The captain came on the tannoy and told us about the 787 on the left of the aircraft (we had already spotted her and were clicking away). The captain was clearly very excited. Most of the passengers did not know what the fuss was about.
I only turn left when boarding aircraft. Well, mostly. All right, sometimes. OH OKAY - rarely.

Here are the photos - apologies for the quality, it was from behind a dirty 767 window on a foggy London day with a not-terrific camera. But here they are:

BA absolutely love the 777W and are kicking themselves for not ordering it sooner but, they are likely to order the 777-900 when launched as it will most likely offer RR on the wing. That's what I've heard.

Six 787 836s, G-ZBJA to 'JF, CN 38609 to 38614, are due for delivery in 2013.

The six 77Ws BA currently operates were ordered in a special deal with Boeing after the manufacturer said that the six 788s detailed above would not be delivered in tiime for the London 2012 Olympics as originally planned.

B787 Coming To LHR on April 27th

Sun Apr 08, 2012 4:03 pm

The 64 million dollar question is, depending on the prevailing winds on the day; which runway? 27R/27L or 09L/09R to take arrival photo's, especially at 7am in the morning, hope the sky is clear, because there wont be much light as it is. Either way it will be a gamble to pick the right, left or right runway.

LhrRampRats, are you able to tell us which particular hangar the B787 will visit while at the BA maintenance base, has one been fitted out to service the B787 yet, like the one recently converted for the A380.

Thanks in advance.

It works out as a 27L arrival and departure if on westerlies. The timings aren't great so I don't think it's worth the hassle regardless of the weather.

I'd be happy with a silouette, it would certainly be unmistakeable, in profile or from front on, especially that wing flex.

Rumour has it, that the 787 will be visiting Luton for a few hours, with it being the HQ for Monarch and Thomson who have both ordered the aircraft...

On previous Boeing tours the 757-200, 767-200 and 300's have all visitied the airport. Be good to keep up the tradition!

Both dates. On 23rd it routes LHR-MAN at 1700. On the 24th at MAN it does 1 local flight then is parked up until 27th when it leaves for LHR at 0900 (1000 arrival for LHR). Stays at LHR until 1st May.

I understand that Concorde AB is visible at Heathrow again and she will be displayed in the airport for the Olympics. I would love it if they did a photoshoot of the visiting 787 with Concorde AB.

Would be great for Boeing too though they have got their own Concorde there at the Museum of Flight.

If anyone is interested there is a Boeing website devoted to the 787's world tours

http://www.newairplane.com/787/dreamtour

It shows the UK leg of the tour being LHR [two separate visits]; LGW; and MAN. Side trips to Oslo [ presumably as Norweigian are a customer] and Taranto in Italy are slotted in around the UK stops.

But a crucial difference.... some clown is deliberately putting up rogue information on movements that are expected are various airports but after the site-owner sadly passed away recently, it is difficult to instigate a robust scheme that ensures greater accuracy; 99.99% of people associated with/posting in that site are not pleased to be considered in the same breath as that person who is wilfully putting wildly incorrect information. What I posted was off the Manchester forum from a good source. As can be seen, the only "wrong" bit about the 787 visit is the trip to LGW.

Its not due at MAN till 22.15 so probably not until about 21.15ish. I think the time has been put back due to a late arrival of the plane from Seattle and Crew hour restrictions
