Multiple New G4 Routes Tomorrow (4/10)

Mon Apr 09, 2012 5:58 pm

Per G4's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Allegiant

Let the speculation begin:
-Will G4 try to fill in some of the void left by Direct Air at MYR and/or PGD?
-Will some of the Hawaii plans be announced?
-Will we see additional service between existing G4 cities?
-Will we see all of the above?
"Did he really need the triple bypass? Or was it the miles?"

Looks like FWA is announcing something tomorrow morning at 10:15am. Coicidence?

Saw that on the FWA Facebook page as well, so I think it's very likely that we'll see a G4 route of some sort.

Currently, G4 flies FWA-MYR/PIE/SFB. Even though FWA-PGD would be a natural fit, G4 doesn't fly to PGD in the summer, so I don't think that FWA-PGD is it. Likewise, FWA-AZA had high loads, but low package sales. And I don't think that FWA-LAX/OAK would work.

That leaves FWA-FLL and FWA-LAS. Both have been tried by G4 before, with LAS being the more successful of the two routes.

I noticed on the G4 facebook page it said new routes are "brewing" which makes me think something to do with beer or coffee. I don't see STL or MKE or even BLV happening. I guest FNL could be considered Golden, CO. CIC has Sierra Nevada brewery and I have long speculated that city is coming at some point. I thought you could possibly market BLI as SEA (coffee) (why not, they already treat PGD as RSW and SRQ and even APF to a certain extent). Maybe I am overthinking the wording on the facebook page.

G4 tried BLV-LAS/SFB, but the competition at STL from WN did them in.

I'd say that might be the case. G4 rarely drops hints like that... they usually use terms like "new city" or "new route". However, they did drop a hint of the OAK base by teasing with a list of things to do in San Francisco about two days before the OAK base announcement.

And don't forget G4's usage of SFB over MCO, AZA over PHX, and PIE over TPA.

Maybe G4 will be announcing service to Paine Field in Everett? (I've lost track of how that fight is going between the NIMBYs and the airport and the airlines....)

Otherwise, a few new routes from BLI for this summer could be in the wind...?

Well, it's anniversary week for the carrier. If they don't announce Hawaii this week (and it's doubtful) I would expect they'll be linking the 757s to some longer stage routes for the summer and Hawaii will be pushed back again. I hope to be wrong.

Then it might be more routes from AVL...America's new Beer City (and future home of the East Coast outposts for Sierra Nevada and New Belgium).

On the G4 interactive map, the existing route from AVL (to SFB) is currently inoperative as of right now. I'm guessing AVL-PIE or FLL.

AZA-FCA or LAS-HLN out west are my guesses and some PDG service out east. If G4 can snip some of Direct Air's routes, it will be even harder for them to ever get back in the air.

Interesting, I wonder if they might start service to Bemidji?

If G4 was unable to make LAS-RST work, I doubt Bemidji would work. STC would likely stand a better chance.

Looks like it is PGD and HNL.

Route map now showing:

Punta Gorda to: Ft. Wayne, South Bend, Peoria, Niagara Falls
Honolulu to: Las Vegas, Stockton

When you select HNL as your departure city, it gives the options of Stockton and Fresno - no Las Vegas.

You are not wrong at all, congrats you got it, it is Hawaii, those 6 757's have a home where it's warm year round.

Now the interactive route map shows LAS & SCK, but lists LAS & FAT.
Next Flights: PDX-HNL-OGG-LIH-PDX On AS, WP & HA

I was wondering if G4 was going to tag onto the LAS-HNL to points east, but the schedule looks like the a/c will RON in LAS with a 21:50 arrival. FAT will also be RON with a Saturday 21:25 arrival and departure the next morning at 09:10.
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

New base in PGD.

I wonder how many aircraft they plan on basing there when they ramp up operations.

FWA-PGD should do very well for G4. I remembered hearing once that 10% of the pax on FL's IND-RSW route came from the Fort Wayne area. This should help FWA reduce their leakage to IND by a considerable margin.

SBN doesn't surprise me, either, and neither do PIA or IAG. PIA is close to SPI (a former Direct Air city), and IAG was another successful PGD route for Direct Air.

On a related note, PGD will now be a permanent base for G4: http://ir.allegiantair.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=663027

It's weird to start all these routes to PGD during the low-season for Southwest Florida. G4 may struggle a bit flying routes from the Midwest to PGD during August/September/October.

Has PGD upgraded their terminal facilities in the past year? About a year ago an acquaintance of mine flew G4 out of PGD and said it was small, cramped, crowded, and chaotic in the terminal- and there was only 1 other flight besides his scheduled to depart.

PGD terminal:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=26.915...97039&hl=en&num=1&t=h&deg=180&z=20

Also interesting that PGD has no ILS for their main runway 15/33 (7193'), only RNAV (GPS) procedures:

Agreed. Flights will probably be pretty light here. I would imagine we'll see most of the old Direct Air routes come online starting in November when peak season starts to kick in.
