ACV-LAX AE Service Postponed

Thu Apr 12, 2012 6:10 pm

I've tried to search and find out what the latest thread on this subject was here on A.net and the last I could find was closed a couple of weeks ago, and has been archived. It contained a schedule for proposed service to begin this June:

Quote:
effective June 14th (via aa.com):

3056 07:50 AM LAX 09:45 AM ACV
Operated by American Eagle
3072 04:55 PM LAX 06:50 PM ACV
Operated by American Eagle

3063 10:15 AM ACV 12:20 PM LAX
Operated by American Eagle
3055 07:20 PM ACV 09:25 PM LAX
Operated by American Eagle

In any case, I just saw this article:
http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/p...airport-american-airlines/670074/1
which states that a deal between AE and ACV has fallen apart for now. Here are a couple of key quotes from the article:

Quote:
American began selling tickets on the route on March 25, but now will refund all purchases, according to the Times-Standard.

Eureka officials says they hope to resurrect the deal to allow American/American Eagle flights to begin in 2013.

Too bad this didn't work out.

The gist of it is Humboldt County is unsure of how to structure and manage the revenue guarantee due to FAA, as well as local charter restrictions. The legal uncertainties thus hampered conclusion of a timely agreement for a Summer, 2012 launch of service.

Barring the unforeseen, service will be launched in Spring, 2013.

Thanks aaway. I simply started this thread because I wasn't sure if people here on A.net were under the assumption that the service was due to start in a couple of months and I wanted the situation to be clarified. (As I said previously, the last info I could find on the matter seemed to leave it as service WOULD be starting in June.)

AA intended to start the service, hence the availability. Obviously jumped the gun w/o having all requisite agreements in place.

Wow this lasted a shorter time than BOI. I will be surprised if this ever launches, by next year AA could be a totally different airline. Remember CO's route map fresh out of BK?
707, 717, 720, 727-1/2, 737-1/2/3/4/5/7/8/9, 747-1/2/3/4, 757, 767-2/3/4, 777, DC-8-5/6/7, DC-9-1/3/5, MD-80/2/3/7/8, DC-10-10/30/40, MD-11, F-27, F-28, SWM, J31, D38, DH7, DH8, DH4 SD-330, B-146, L-1011-2/500, ATR-42/72, VCV, A-300/310/318/319/320, CR2/7

I'm with you on this. Granted I don't know much about AA operations at LAX, but the flight times seemed horrible for connection opportunities let alone for the business person to conduct business meetings in the LA area. I hope the local authorities down there haven't spent a lot of money advertising this service.

I would think that if 3063 departed ACV for LAX using the same times they had for 3056 an likewise for the evening flight they would at least be more friendly to the business customer.

Just my    since I'm not an industry insider.

I was waiting for you chime in on this one, your correct, the times are more suited for the LA traveller who may have day business in Eureka. I am sure a year from now AA will be saying ACV who? I'd love to see this area improve, but unless it is legalized, and business travellers include pot farmers, Humbolt Co. won't see it's fair share of air service. Hope to see ya when I'm down there next month.

They're working on it...lol I got to thinking about those flight times a little more. I'm going to assume that the Humbolt County folks told AA they'd like to have a morning and evening flight then AA came up with the times. Since AA was getting a subsidy I guess they didn't feel the need to optimize the times for the flights out of ACV. In other words I gather their thought process was we'll take the money then leave when it is all gone. I would think they'd want to use the opportunity to build a market. Again I'm not an insider so I don't know the thought processes inside the boardroom.
