Hey guys I was on board DL
73 yesterday, and it was interesting to say the least. I was in J, taking a nap when I realized the commotion and they announced it was for a " medical emergency". I take the DL
72-73 a lot and had medical diversions before I knew this wasn't one. The purser who was annoying me from the get go(whole other story) was freaking out, one of the younger FA
's who is on this flight a lot handled the situation much better than the rest of the uber senior crew. Right after we landed it was obvious that this was no medical emergency. We taxiied to a remote location met with security, only then the younger FA
announced that they had to say medical emergency due to " sensitivty" of the issue, and explained everything inculing the fact that the diversion was due to cell phone found in the lav.
The passengers were very calm till the purser got on the PA and said " not just any cell phone, its a phone that's tempered with" that made everyone uneasy. As we were given strict instructions not to move from our seats we were wondering if there was such a threat why were not allowed to disembark the aircraft.
I figured later that the purser made the announcement after the owner of the cell phone was found, and it actually belonged to a Iranian girl traveling with a group of 34, she had an old crappy phone that the case was loose so she taped it together. I think DL
handled the situation very well especially the young FA
who took over the situation from the freaked out Purser.
In the meantime I tweeted that we made an emergency landing and a journalist got in touch with me so here is the article:
This is my second Dublin diversion on DL
73. My next time I will be staying for a couple nights and have some drinks there.
