They must've wanted to get the plane down fast. Pinnacle crews tend to be shy about landing at TVC after a nasty incident years ago. If the winds aren't just right, they don't go
Thats not really true.
There was 2 issues in the past relating to TVC
but it involved wintertime operations.
1 was a NW
DC-9 back in about 2001 / 2002. The DC-9 has a runway overrun in icy conditions due to snow qualls that came over the field, typical of the lake effect snow in the region. There was another near incident that led to NW
pulling mainline out of TVC
for the following winter, primarily since the tower was closing at 10pm, before the last inbound arrival from DTW
for the night which was giving outdated weather and airfield conditions.
The other was a 9E
CRJ in about April 2007. That also happened in snow quall / lake effect snow conditions.
That being said, there is no snow up there today so it is just an ordinary chilly April day.
Nevermind that 9E
is currently operating all 4 of the daily CRJs from DTW
