Will The Concorde Every Fly Again?

Wed Oct 11, 2000 7:19 pm

Hey guys,

i'm sure you all heard of the concorde crash, but will the plane ever fly again? It seems as if it wont, but it would be a bit of a waste. Its the only supersonic passenger plane in the world, and the making of one hasn't been thought of anymore.

YES

BA are hoping to re-start their JFK route around Christmas, or very early in the new year

The plans for the modifications are well underway including new tyres, stronger spray guards and linning the insides of the main fuel tanks with a flexable inner tube of Kevlar and Rubber.

The cost is believed to be around £500,000 per aircraft along with the planned £2,000,000 cabin interior upgrade, which would save them £1,000,000 a year in weight savings.

BA are said to require to have 3 aircraft modified and certified to allow them to start a daily return flight to JFK.

let's see what happens

Yes, definitely after all those upgrades as well as modifications. BA is hoping to restart its JFK route by Christmas time. For Air France, I believe it takes a longer time for them to completely recover from this incident and refly its concorde.

Seriously, I hope to see Concorde flying again!

Hope this helps!

And other 4 aircraft are supposed to follow the first 3, aren't they? It would be great to see them flying again before Jan 21, 2001.

It will all be down to time.

BA have normally 5 or 6 aircraft serviceable at any one time and require 4 aircraft to run a twice a day return to JFK and 5 to also run the weekend barbadoes winter service. leaving 1 for charters and 1 under a C check.

Their priority is the JFK route, but it may not support a 2 flights a day return service until passenger confidence re-builds, but I suspect they could still fill the bird on a flight to barbadoes.

who knows what AF want to do, if they decide not to continue flights BA would jump at the chance of aquiring the 5 remaining aircraft for thier use as they have, on average, only 60% of the flight hrs/cycles of the BA fleet.

You can never keep a good bird grounded for long.

The latest news i heard was that Concorde will fly again in March 2001. Hopefully the plane will be back in the air sooner than that. BA engineers are working very hard to get Concorde flying again. At this point it doesn't look like the French are making any devoted efforts to helping Concorde.

You can also bet that if Air France doesn't return their Concordes to the sky, Virgin will jump at the chance to snatch them up!

Of course it will!!!
Keep up with the spirit and it will..
April of 20001 I have heard from both BA and AF..
Its Airworthiness Certificate was suspended as well as its FAA.
But its been and being upgraded to prevent these accidents and it will rise and harness the outer reachess of the skies once again..

yes, definitely. In fact, very soon around March 2001. You can't have them grounded them forever
