787 At SAT?

Thu Apr 26, 2012 8:44 pm

On Tuesday I was outside and saw what I thought was a WN 73G in one of their special liveries. On second glance, I saw the swept/raked wing tips and thought that it had to be a 787. The tail was orange and the body was beige, probably JAL.

My confusion is that it appeared to be on the approach to SAT, but that Boeing is doing 787 mods at SKF. The approach to SKF also comes over my property, but is decidedly different.

Can anyone enlighten or correct me?

Thanks

Why Lackland AFB and not SAT? Just curious as SAT isn't exactly the busiest in the world.

To as739x:

Lackland actually is only a new recruit training base, without any air field. Next door to Lackland is Kelly USA, the former Kelly AFB. Boeing has a major A/C maintenance facility there, and is doing upgrades to the 787 before they are delivered to the artiness. That is why I was expecting the 787 I saw to be heading to SKF and not SAT.
