Southwest Looking At Changing Ad Agencies

Reliable sources indicate that Southwest has sent out requests for proposals to ad agencies. Does this indicate a change in communications and market direction now that AirTran has been absorbed and there are some fundamental changes coming to Southwest's business model?

most likely it reflects they want to explore other options out there on how to promote their brand at a lower cost than the current model.

I have to admit, I miss the old WN ad agency of the 90s.... I used to love the play on words they used....

"Point A to Point BWI."
"Tampa Bay Expressway"
"Hail, Hail, Lauderdale!"
"Oregon With the Wind."
"Skedaddle to Seattle."
"Phoenix Phrequently."
"LA ASAP."
"Breeze Into Chicago."
"KC ASAP."
"Houston, We Have Liftoff."
"El Paso Pronto."
"Oklahoma Sooner."

Wouldn't be the first time that a big corporation asks for proposals only to keep its current agency honest and on its toes...

What, they wouldn't be able to start charging for bags while using the same ad agency?

Good. I'm getting tired of those silly, cocky, commercials. I guess I'm not the only one who's getting annoyed with SW ads.

Maybe they can switch over to a larger ad agency like BBH (BA), or W+K (Delta), and focus on presenting a classier image.. rather than whatever they play around with now.

For better or worse they are wedded to "Bags Fly Free". If they were to reneg, it would be a bigger disaster then New Coke.

That's exactly what WN did in 1990

OLD NEWS!

Southwest Airlines Looks Beyond GSD&M

They are not changing merely looking for help and RFP's mean nothing really but who can do it for cheap...

Ms. Rutherford said that regardless of the outcome, the airline will continue to partner with the shop. "We have a long, legacy relationship that has been an excellent one with GSD&M and we don't anticipate that changing."

Also Herb is personal close friends with Roy Spence, the founding partner and Gary went to UT the same time all (4) founding partners did.

Title is very very mis-leading!

Same. Although after looking at GSD&M's portfolio, their SW works falls exactly in line with their other stuff.

Those Marshalls ads are ridiculous, terrible, and mis-leading. The Jarritos "we're not from here" thing is silly... Apparently they (SW) enjoy looking quirky and not professional.
