Rumour Of New Deal For B787 For Norwegian DY

Wed May 02, 2012 7:12 pm

Norwegian DY has 6 Boeing B787 800 on order at this time. However it is not a secret that the boss of Norwegian, Mr. Bjørn KJos is keen on getting adittional frames. It has been problematic for Norwegian getting it's hands on B787's without having to wait a long time for them.

Several newspapers in Norway are indicating that Norwegian wants another 10 frames and that such a deal might be in the works within the next few weeks.

Mr. Kjos has earlier indicated that he hopes to have some 20 - 25 frames in the future.

Any idea where Norwegian can get hands on B787's real quick ahead of the line ... ?

Quote from Norwegian economy newspaper Finansavisen today:

"Klappjakt på ti Dreamliner-fly
I går landet Boeings «Dreamliner» på Gardermoen. Norwegian har seks i bestilling, og har forsøkt å skaffe ti til frem mot i dag. Kjøpet kan bli klart de neste ukene."

Translation:

"Hunt for 10 Dreamliners

Yesterday, Boeings Dreamliner landed at OSL airport. Norwegian has 6 on order, and has tried to get an adittional 10 up to today. The contract may be ready in the next few weeks"

IMO DY has been smart with getting so many early birds as they have. I am sure that all leasing companies early birds are spoken for?

I was almost expecting a further order on the day that the 787 visited OSL. Thought maybe they delayed any anouncement, due to the death of Alexander Dale Oen (not the day to publicize something like an order). But, seems like DY are waiting for better slots.

6 isn't near enough when Kjos has already mentioned OSL-BKK, OSL-NYC, and during an interview on the 787 he also said ARN-NYC.

If DY want to be a significant carrier intercontinentally, they'll need more routes than that.

That may be. DY say they will announce an order soon.

In September or October they will start selling tickets for New York and Bangkok, and they will start flying in March 2013.

Their 787 will seat 291 passengers.

Who is going to pay for all the Norwegian orders?

85% of the deal will be the U.S Export/import bank. I know DY has financed new planes by selling some older planes that they in turn lease back.

It all sounds very Icelandic bubble to me.

By the way, the Michael OLeary comments are widespread in the industry, not just for Norwegian.

How did Ryainair pay for all their planes

It comes down to generating enough cash flow.

Perhaps airlines with early (heavy) frames would consider moving back in the line...especially if there was some incentive to do so.

Wow I can't wait to see what routes DY will utilize these aircraft on. I hope they have routes in mind, that are more in line with what Thomson fly spoke of recently.

Great stuff for Scandinavia!

You'd be surprised at the coverage he was getting (and still is). It was a talking point for just about every Norwegian. We are a proud people, proud of our athletes, and all mourn to tradgedies. That day was not right for PR, and DY were a bit unlucky to get the 787 coming in that day, as they did not get the same level of coverage they would normally have gotten.

The world of financing is totally different since FR started buying aircraft. Look at the tricks the US carriers do to acquire aircraft and compare this to the mega orders Norwegian has just made.

Airlines like FR, EK and SQ are sound.

Others are much higher risk.

bestwestern, I wouldn't be too cocky on behalf of Ryanair. Things seems to be changing at Ryanair. The first change came in November 2010 with a change in growth. One year later (November 2011) the growth changed to a decline, and at the end of April Ryanair measure in 12 months rolling passengers is between 700,000 og 800,000 smaller than it was at the end of October 2011. This decline is the first of the history of Ryanair. the last years the yearly growth has been between 5 and 9 million passengers. April's 12 months rolling passenger growth is now down to 2.1 million, and this number has been declining since June 2010. It seems like MOL is getting more and more desperate, and like most when it's difficult at home starts concentrating on others (not as they supposed to do, fix the problems at home). Ryanair is built on growth and reselling used 737s with huge profit. Now the market for used older 738 seems to have vanished and it seems the growth also is about to vanish, therefore I would tend to say Ryanair is moving from being sound to being unsound.

I am no fan of Ryanair. However, like it or not, they are not considered a credit risk. PM me your email address and I will send you on the analysis behind the concerns banks have with lending for these aircraft.
