JetBlue Operation In CLT

Thu May 03, 2012 9:12 pm

Hey guys,

Do you see JetBlue offering a little more out CLT

MCO: AirTran is dropping that in August
FLL: it was doing fine until they change the time, that's my understanding
Next flight: TUL-ATL-CLT CRJ900 and MD88

It's a possibility, although we'll get fierce competition from US. I love our CLT crew, great set of folks we have down there. You never know what dots will get connected as time marches along LOL!

I doubt JetBlue would start flights to CLT unless US started a codeshare with them (either through a merger, or organically)

MCO and FLL I doubt it; a very large lesure destination and US has a much better FFlyer Base in CLT.

Now, once JetBlue gets their A321's I could certainly see them doing a trans-con flight from LGB or LAX. With the ability to offer a better product on this longer flight which people would be willing to spend more for.

B6 has been flying to CLT since 2006 and hasn't had a codeshare or interline with US.

I honesltly think B6 has bigger to fish to fry, I honestly doubt we will be seeing transcons or Caribbean flights on B6 out of CLT. The bigger question is why isn't B6 in PHL yet? I know that is a US stronghold, however, it is a large city whihc could support a couple of dailies down to Florida.

B6 tried to expand in CLT but US gave them a good fight. They had a FLL flight but US quickly changed their schedules and offered a flight to FLL at the same time and price as B6. B6 has waaay more things they can do out of other cities before they expand to CLT.

CLT-LGB? Not a chance.

If your gonna see any new service to the West Coast out of CLT, it'll be VX to LAX or SFO or UA to SFO.

Maybe, but US and WN/FL already do this, so they'd be fighting for mostly low yields.

PHL-JFK isn't really useful (DL only does it for European connections) and PHL-BOS, should they do it, is always a bloodbath that US has a good track record of winning. I don't see B6 in California-PHL either with UA, US and VX already doing so.

I think B6 would be able to coexist with US on BOS-PHL. For one, while B6 would launch the route with low sale fares to start, they don't typically engage in the kind of cutthroat price wars that WN got themselves into in PHL. With 3 to 4 well-timed flights and more reasonable fares (but not the money-losing $49 fares WN was offering), and a superior inflight product to US, I think B6 could make a successful go of BOS-PHL. In my own opinion, its a matter of time given B6's focus on business travelers in BOS.

Look at DFW, nobody in a million years thought B6 would go into DFW. They had already expressed interest in DAL in the past. What brought them into DFW however, was that it was what business travelers in BOS wanted. If business travelers in BOS want PHL, then they'll probably get it.

While I think it's possible, I guess part of the equation is whether B6 thinks it's worth opening a station on the merits of just one route, unless they do more than PHL-BOS. It's those other cities which are harder to determine. I would like to see the price competition on the route but US has always jealously defended this route, and pretty much just UA and B6 remain as the only carriers to have not tried it in recent years. I'm not sure the onboard service matters much on the 45 min or so average flight this normally is; US also flies it mainly with E90s, which are one of the more comfortable configs they have, especially in Y, and they fly it with effectively shuttle frequency.

B6 is building a stong enough base of flyers in BOS that PHL is certainy possible. Us couldnt do anything to stop them or kick them off the route. The problem i bet as others said is where else would jetblue fly to from PHL? No other opportunity really exists and its probably not worth the expense of a whole station for a few embraer flights which dont really have much high profit potential. FLL and MCO yields are garbage, SJU has alot of US service and is lots of tourists, and LGB has no slots and they have much more pressing network needs than PHL for their LGB focus city

US offers close to hourly service on PHL-BOS. When WN was servicing the route, it offered flights at about every two hours, so US won on frequency. From the PHL side perspective, US also won against WN and likely other past competitors on FF rewards, and use of FF to places nonstop (from PHL) and being in a large allliance where partner has more nonstops out of EWR.

B6 would have to rely alot on the BOS area pax into PHL. If they wanted to try something less conventional to attract some from the PHL side as well: maybe they could offer 4 BOS-PHL (timed well and targeted more for the BOS area pax), and then ABE-BOS flight early AM and timed so that someone could commute to BOS. This is a joint airport approach.

Also added could be ABE-MCO, ABE-FLL. I think the Lehigh Valley is large enough to have daily nonstops to Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and Boston, and ABE is closer to Berks Co. than PHL. And those in Montgomery Co. and NW NJ might use it. If both airports could work - great. However, if not, B6 could gauge which of the two (PHL or ABE) was not working and eventually consolidate at one of the two, but it'd still be better than a complete pull out.

Then what are BWI or DFW?
