Mon May 07, 2012 11:39 pm

I didn't se anything recent on this, so forgive me if this has already been posted. I am looking to fly on one of United's 747s next week on May 14th. But I want to go over to europe. Any ideas where they send them TATL?

thank you!

Tyler

All the time from ORD into FRA. Why a 744 though ... they are dated, try getting a 777 , they are so much better , unless you want to for the quad

If you are going to fly in first class, go for a 747 or 767. The 777s are mixed between new and old configuration.

SFO-FRA and ORD-FRA are the only 747 routes to Europe. However I don't know anyone who would take a vacation to FRA. It isn't a hot tourist destination compared to others in Europe.

what are some good 767/777 routes to Europe then? I know they fly a lot of 757s there, and I am not a fan of single aisle to europe. haha

Well if you are going First Class (not business), most routes are through ORD or IAD that you would connect to from Kansas. You can choose LHR which is the most popular destination, but also CDG, BRU, MUC, FCO, GVA, ZRH, FRA, and AMS, which all have F. If you are on a 777, just be warned you have about a 40% chance of getting the old configuration which is not as good. 767-300s and 747s guarantee the new product.

The B744 is no longer seen at LHR. SFO-LHR returned to B777 service in March.

If you want the NEW First UA product the 747 has the best premium First cabin, and row 1 is best for 2 people traveling together- and most private and best storage at or around the seat. It does not have a direct overhead as it's in the very tip of the nose.
On the 767, you must make sure when booking is a 3 class 767 as their are about 5 767's that are ex-CO. If the agent says it's a 767-400, it won't have "Global First". But the 767-300 are all 3 class with "Global First" seats. And if you are traveling with someone you need seat 1A and the asile in 1st, otherwise she could be at seat 1K which has a seat and hip-high wall. I think seats 2A and the asile are the same. Check SEATGURU.com and certainly call UA and speak to a live person. The same goes for the 777. YOU MUST ASK "is this a NEWLY reconfigured 777 with 3 cabins? BUT, there is always a small chance they swap equipment last minute and you may get an old 777 with the old First seat or an ex-CO 777 with just business and no First at all.

Also, are you buying an F ticket or upgrading somehow? Certain routes can be difficult to get 2 people in F if you are using miles or Systemwides -- and your status really counts.
The world is missing love, let's use our flights to spread it!

5 767's that are ex-CO.

16 767-400s and 7 767-200s, but those will be phased out this year and next.

As of this week, one 767-322/ER is in a J/Y international configuration with sCO BusinessFirst flat bed seats at a 2-1-2 configuration. 13 more to follow.

Do you have any shots of what she looks like on the inside? Did they go new bins sidewalls and all?

i.e. does it look like a newly configured 764?

I flew a UA744 in March on the FRA-SFO route. It was a great flight with extremely scenic views of Greenland, the Canadian Arctic, the Canadian/US Rockies and the Cascade volcanoes while heading down the West Coast towards SFO. Obviously the wind/weather/cloud cover need to cooperate to have that routing and those views, but in terms of a general route, the FRA-SFO route overflies some breathtaking scenery. Actual flight time was 11 hours, 18 minutes on my flight. Good luck and have fun!

Erm, weren't we talking about Europe

And yeah, there are more to come. What I listed is just what operated thus far in May.

UA 747's to Europe?

SFO-FRA and ORD-FRA that's really it!

Go for it tyler81190! Hop on UA 747 to FRA!

You can definitely have a ball on a trip to Frankfurt. It's true that Frankfurt itself might not be the most desired European destination (but it's definitely underrated as Frankfurt has a lot more to offer than one might think), however the area around Frankfurt and areas nearby have plenty to offer. Plus Frankfurt's central geographical position makes for easy onward travel in the southwest of Germany, nearby France and Switzerland... etc. So come over... it's really worth a visit... you could come and see Heidelberg for instance. It's close to Frankfurt... its takes you roughly 45 minutes to get there from the airport.

Best regards
