BA To Increase LGW Frequences This Winter

Tue May 08, 2012 9:25 pm

Good news for TRN and SZG at LGW with increased frequences below:

Boost for winter ski routes

British Airways is increasing flights to two of its popular European ski destinations from Gatwick next winter.

From December 18, flights to Turin in Italy will increase to 10 a week and flights to Salzburg in Austria will increase to five a week.

The extra return service to Turin will operate on a Sunday and extra return services to Salzburg will operate on Thursday and Saturday.

Sophie McKinstrie, British Airways Gatwick, said: “These routes are already very popular with winter travellers, and skiers in particular, so we have taken the opportunity to boost our winter schedule with the extra flights.”

hmmm. So that's 4 more flights in total. Hardly a headline to me.
Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

New increases but cuts had to be done, no mention of that.
BA to discontinue London Gatwick – Thessaloniki Service from 28OCT12
And i think FAO has also seen a decrease in frequencies
I wonder how BLQ is doing since the flights from LHR been announced

I was thinking BA was adding more sun destinations from LGW for the winter season. Guess I wasn't thinking skiing.

They may need to bring another 319 over from LHR, because they'll be down one 734 if 'DOCU is not to be repaired.

Not sure we will ever see BA in the Canaries. I could be wrong of course but it's true that the club loads on GB Airways to ACE/LPA/TFS were never as strong as many other routes. This, combined with the long sector length and competition from EZY and the charter carriers, I think BA would struggle to achieve much profitability. There would certainly be demand and loads would undoubtedly be healthy, but it is whether BA could sell enough club seats and if they could better utilise the aircraft elsewhere.

Certainly longer sectors won't be seen until BA LGW gets a fleet renewal (IF!)
