More New G4 Hawaii Routes Next Week

Fri May 11, 2012 11:54 pm

Reports are leaking of more Hawaii route announcements by Allegiant next week.

First rumor report is from this news blogger (who used to be a print newspaper reporter/editor) saying SMX will supposedly get Hawaii flights. He says SMX has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday May 15 to announce the service.
http://www.sierra2thesea.com/Site/Bl.../Entries/2012/5/11_Coast_Beat.html
Flights at SMX would draw both passengers from both the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo areas.

SMX been rumored for the last couple of years.

Santa Barbara County (where Santa Maria is located) is a large unserved source of Hawaii tourist traffic. But the runway at SBA is only about 6000 ft.

Allegiant currently operates SMX to Vegas. But additionally SMX just completed a runway extension to 8000 ft.

Looks like the media is going to let us know a lot before Tuesday.

Now reports say EUG will have a press conference Tuesday.

Since Allegiant already flies from EUG to LAS, LAX, AZA and OAK I wonder if it would take us very long to decide what other destination they might add.....

...and we all thought SCK would be among the first. With the new Santa Maria and Eugene, they'll have 2 of the aircraft in service? That second would only be flying a couple days a week. I wonder if LAS picks up a 4th or FAT a 2nd before we see SCK added? You'd think that the new markets will be greeted with outbounds on Saturday or Sunday, not mid-week.

If you are planning on having the passengers swim part of the distance, sure. 4360nm is too far for any 757 with any meaningful payload in it.

Are they allowed putting extra tanks in the thing? What's the farthest it can travel?

Just heard on a Denver news channel this morning flights from Ft Collins/Loveland to Hawaii will be possible with a stop in Vegas.

I saw that mentioned online and wondered about it too until I read the article. I think it will mislead many people until they read the fine print.

Nothing more than a passenger being able to buy 2 tickets and self connect at LAS, from the article:
"Dovetailing the arrival times in Las Vegas from Loveland with the departures to Honolulu, and then vice versa, will take some tinkering time on the airline website, allegiantair.com. For travelers who have the time, and don't mind a layover in Las Vegas for a day or more, the option is attractive. "

Looking at flight times, passengers have to overnight in LAS both directions to/from FNL.

Allegiant must be offering rock-bottom fares to justify *not* driving the short distance to DEN, and having to overnight in LAS.

This was my number one choice for G4 service to Hawaii when they started rumbling about flying to Hawaii. There was a small article in the Bend Bulletin 6 months or so ago, and a reporter had been interviewing a G4 representative about the success of flights into Oregon in general. When asked about their intentions with the Hawaii market, the G4 rep said that G4 wanted to serve currently unserved markets, and made reference to EUG-HNL. I am glad to see this, I bet it will be big.

At 159 USD one-way I don't see why anyone would pick allegiant over any of the mainline carriers, other than if they live right next door to the airport.

Wow, G4's first OGG route announced, guess they didn't beat AS to HNL from BLI, but they did to OGG, great going G4.
I'm surprised EUG starts with just once a week service, I was hoping for two x weekly. Can't wait to see that 757 at Mahlon Sweet.

First of all, G4 is in fact targeting the local passengers at these small airports - they are not banking on pulling any large number away from the big airport down the road.

Second, $159 one-way is an outstanding price so I'm not sure what you are implying. I used the EUG flight as an example - flying another carrier from EUG on the same date is minimum well over $700 rt, and from PDX still twice the price of G4, plus the drive time, gas and parking fees.

I see AS air deals on their website from BLI, SEA & PDX at times for $358.00 r/t, but only the off season, and not too often. Most of the HA & AS seats sell via Packagers like All About Travel, you can not get out of EUG for these same fares though, I expect G4's fares are a good bargain if they stay in that ballpark.

Great to see more. Let's see how they do.

They have a long time to book these flights. In the smaller communities and media markets word will travel fast of a flight to Hawaii that's "cheap" and local as it is a big deal for these airports. BLI is interesting to see how Alaska and allegiant do side by side. Heck cities like MSY, IND, STL, MCI can't even get a flight as impressive as this to a cool long distance spot. "cheap" flights to Hawaii will have people talking and going to look at prices and packages especially when it's the nice close local airport with free or cheaper parking and easier to get a whole family thru airport

Personally I hope COS happens. It's high altitude but very long runways since it's an air force Base and it's cooler than denver.

It's great to see allegiant flying 757s out of smaller airports to Hawaii   I am really hoping these do well

G4 has tickets on sale for dates until Nov 13th, so I can't even buy a EUG-HNL r/t. I looked and the inaugrual flight is 219.00 o/w not 179.00, how can that be when they have not even sold tickets for these flights yet?

Not in this release is a frequency increase due to high demand:
FAT-HNL goes to 2X per week. (Fri/Sun arrivals; Sat/Mon departures starting in Nov)

Good for BLI........4x weekly to the islands should be a good measurement of the market.

Interested to see how all the new service at BLI will pan out. F9, AS, and G4

(side note....I see AS is dropping the 4x weekly PM BLI-LAS)

Like you, I expect to see more Maui flights announced in coming months. With FAT-HNL selling well and that route's increasing frequency I'm looking for a future FAT-OGG announcement.

The first day of HNL sales there were Maui hotels listed on the G4 website. That list was quickly pulled down but is back now due to the BLI flight.

I not only hope, but expect G4 to serve RFD to HNL in the near future. The airport has been going after regular service to the islands for several years now and with the premise that they could take service from all of the majors out of ORD it would be a win, win for both the airport and G4.

But, Allegiant does have its future eye on flights to some of the Caribbean islands and Mexico resorts. Those are probably more likely nonstops for RFD or GRR than flights to Hawaii.

Great circle mapper puts RFD-HNL at 4181 miles, the 757 has a fully loaded range of ~3900 miles. Unless G4 decides to get a 3rd fleet type, I don't see that happening.

It would be a nice addition though.

Hawaii traffic from Fresno is split pretty evenly between Oahu and Maui. Only about 1,000 more tourists from the Fresno MSA end up on Oahu vs Maui. 2010 and most of 2011 info at:

I could see that. Not only that, but 2x HNL allows more flexibility for passengers. They can go for a few days, a week, a week and a few days... etc. Instead of just 1 week, 2 weeks....

Do they have a 757 stationed at HNL for these flights or are they coming LAS-FAT-HNL? What about OGG?

I don't know...Medford/Ashland/G Pass is a lot smaller metro than Eugene, and in fact probably loses some potential pax to the new EUG flight (Roseburg etc). It could probably work, but both wouldn't work.

This is all very exciting. Can't wait to see what else they announce. I wonder if this will accelerate southwest to announce hawaii. They have so much on their plate but I think I they want the big kahuna lax-HNL and oak-HNL with no allegiant on it so they can go back to their routes fighting the legacies and not a ulcc too.

Hawaii is going to be very exciting to watch here in the next few years I bet southwest and allegiant are really gonna shake things up. Ata is old news of a LCC trying hawaii. allegiant has the packages where they really make money and southwest will be able to connect and offer free luggage advantage the lccs will be able to challenge the legacies this time.

I the best hope for HNL service from RFD is via F9 and probably two connections (since I don't think their aircraft have the legs for DEN-HNL/OGG).

Anyone think G4 will pick up KOA (or elsewhere in HI) in the future as well?

Yes, I do think with G4's 1-2x weekly services on the currently announced routes, those 6 757's could do quite a bit of Hawaii flying. IMO, KOA and LIH will eventually come online as destinations once G4 is more established in Hawaii. Who knows if the Hawaii flying is very successful, they may acquire a couple more 757's to add to the fleet. Would make sense with the 757's all based in Hawaii, that you may see G4 operate positioning flights Inter Island from time to time. I'm pretty sure they would not sell tickets on those hops though.

I the best hope for HNL service from RFD is via F9 and probably two connections (since I don't think their aircraft have the legs for DEN-HNL/OGG).

I don't think F9 has the aircraft for that type of flying, F9 would need to acquire a new type to fly to Hawaii. Omni Air could be a good option for a scheduled/charter flight from RFD to HNL, in connection with a vacation company like Apple for example.
