UA Opens IAH Base For UA F/a's

Wed May 16, 2012 7:34 pm

I don't have the link, I will try to find it.

UA opens a IAH flight attendant domicile for up to 350 flight attendants. No timeline as yet. This is a domicile open for all former United flight attendants.................

According to flyertalk PMCO bases will open in DEN, SFO, ORD, and IAD as well.

Nothing for EWR or CLE?

Makes since, especially since 319/320 and 767 pmUA bases are opening at IAH...I think there will be some interesting additions/changes to the September schedules at IAH. I checked randomly in July and IAH sees 757 to ALOT of stations, PIT, SNA, ONT, BWI are of note besides the usual suspects.

sUA has an F/A domicile at JFK/LGA which is being expanded to include EWR. They will increase sUA staffing at this base.

I does make sense because UA won't have to do as much deadheading or long pairings to cover the trips. My only thought is does this mean that UA is in no hurry to get a combined UA/CO f/a contract?

Lot is going on.

s-UA opens a IAH FA base with with 300 to start with. Also JFK base will expand greatly with 500 going there.

s-CO will open FA bases at DEN, IAD, LAX, ORD, and SFO by March 2013, with between 200-300 FAs at each to start with.

This follows new pilot bases which were announced (and posted in threads already).

That's a lot of FAs for 6-8 flights daily on a 752. They can't possibly be expanding service to JFK considering EWR is across the river. Any ideas?

Um, I guess I don't get how these things work, but if there was already a CO base at IAH (or vice-versa depending on the city), wouldn't they just add the "other" PM carrier's personnel to the existing base??

Still separate contracts. So technically that cannot be done until the merger is complete so to speak.

Those at UA's JFK base will be for EWR.

UA's JFK base covers all the NYC airports. Obviously bulk of flying will be from EWR.

Still two separate airline employee pools. s-UA crews don't operate s-CO flights or vice-versa.

Just to add to what LAXIntl has stated, some of the pm-UA widebody A/C are being redeployed on EWR routes. pm-UA metal has been flying EWR-ZRH for some time. EWR-IST, which begins in June, will also be flown with pm-UA metal, hence the build-up of the JFK crew domicile, which encompasses the co-terminals of LGA and now EWR.

Yes, interesting... Don't forget PMUA is operating EWR-EZE, while PMCO operates GRU from EWR.

This means EZE has an F cabin, while GRU does not. Correct?

EZE has F, GRU does not.

Add GVA and sometime in the fall LHR to that list. But the PMUA NYC base can also operate the other domestic PMUA routes from EWR. And as of right now there are about a dozen of them.

And I read in some other thread that PMUA 757 NYC pilots are being trained to fly the PMCO 757s especially for international crossings. Anybody know if the PMUA 757 pilots are also being cross trained for the 753?

PMUA pilots cannot fly PMCO 752s and vice versa. No exchange of metal will occur until a contract is reached and the resulting SLI.

And EWR-BRU. Can't speak for ZRH, but so far BRU was crewed by very senior F/As from IAD doing a W (IAD-BRU-EWR vv) and the best I can say is they will not earn service awards any time soon. Perhaps the service on EWR-BRU will improve now.

Any indication of new 767 flying from IAH this Sept - or any other changes to IAH for Sept? I know with the opening of a 767 base here they probably have plans to backfill the 762s departure. I'd guess CDG/EZE would be first up.

That makes sense. Although, I wouldn't want to commute cross Manhattan. Is there a bus or some other company compensated transportation?

Wrong rumor.

What the UA JFK pilots are being refreshed on is international ops. Until recent the base has not flown internationally for almost a decade since all the 767 flying shifted away.

There is no cross training on CO equipment, and wont be till there is a JCBA and any potential fences removed.

BWI-IAH is jam-packed 738s -- a lot of it Fort Bliss and Fort Hood to Fort Meade (and vice-versa) traffic. But I've never seen a 757 on that route.

Maybe it's time for that to change.

So they are being refreshed on INTL ops for what reason? And what a/c types?

There will be a 757 on BWI-IAH this summer. I don't see any from PIT though.

Reminds me of the days not so long ago when AA flew BWI-DFW-BWI on 757s. Flew that route a few times visiting my ex-GF during college.

Before the 752s at CO went EWR-Europe IAH-BWI would see this bird during the spring/summer seasons. Its due to go 757.

The UA JFK 757 base is operating international flying ex EWR (on 763), and as flying grows more members need to have their qualifications updated. Thats all.

To crew EWR-EZE/ZRH and the upcoming EWR-IST/LHR, plus a number of other international swaps to sUA equipment for future schedules. EWR-BRU with 777 will be IAD crews until UA decides it needs a NYC 777 base.

At the moment, these are 757/767 pilots with the expectation that the international flying will be 767.

Quoting tommy767 (Reply 22):

Yes, the 757-300 around 2008 or so. BWI-CLE is now the exclusive domain of Express.

757 pilots can also fly the 767, so since they won't be flying CO's 757s until there is a single contract, and PMUA's 757s are not as capable, they will most likely be flying 767s.
