QF Domestic 767 Flights - LH Or SH Cabin Crew?

Thu May 17, 2012 1:16 am

I know domestic A330 flights are operated by both Long and Short Haul Cabin Crew, but are any 767s operated by Long Haul as part of international patterns? Eg SYD-PER 767, PER-SIN A330

Absolutely, this month especially you will find both SH and LH crew operating BNE-PER-BNE, MEL-PER-MEL and SYD-MEL-SYD on B767 A/C
LH crew are trained in 747/767A330. And this does happen alot so that International patterns are completed from perth (QF71/72/77/78/68/67)
I hope this has helped.

There are no particular flight number that they operate on with the exception of QF581/582 seems to be operated by LH crew... or anywhere the 744 is operated on... as i said it can vary as we are all trained in the domestic wide body aircraft.

Long Haul crew of course operate the QF3/4 rotation. I understand the vast majority of domestic B767 flying is now operated by Short Haul crew with only occasional LH crew operating on B767's. I understand this usually only happens if an A330 is downgraded to a B767.

No, Im crew... its very mixed atm, more like 50/50 split of A330/B767 flights spread across SH and LH crews.
With the exception of QF3/4 as that is a LH crewed route.

You may wish to check the pattern books. Long Haul crew are not rostered domestic 767 flying. The only time I've ever seen LH crew operating a domestic 767 flight (between domestic terminals) is where there has been an equipment substitution.

Long Haul crew operated a handful of PER-BNE-PER flights on the 330 in the last bid period. That's a very small percentage of BNE-PER flying.

My understanding is that SH 'own' true domestic 767 flying (Divisional FLying Agreement?). 330 flying (whether domestic or international) is shared under the Regional Flying Agreement(?).

QF581 had been operated by 767 and A330 aircraft a handfull of times during the 744s stint on the route, I assume they would have all been LH operated

Saturday's were always 767's, which would have been operated in the same way as any other domestic 767 route.

QF581 is currently A330's, which would again be operated in exactly the same way as any other domestic A330 route...

If it were planned 767 flying, it would have been operated by SH crew.

Are the LH crew certified on all the different 767 sub fleets? This seems very inefficient, I understand that they would need the one international one for HNL since SH cant operate there, seems like another reason to pull the 767 off HNL save in training most of LH on 767 for small amount of domestic flying and HNL.

last bid package im sure they were operating most widebodies East-West... and yes its comes back to that 25% share of regional flying thing, as mostly SH crew operate the ADL-SIN flights, (which is our 25% share, aparently) but we are operating AKL's too this bid package... odd!

I believe 737 flying is not included. I used to understand the Regional Flying Agreement much better. I think now it is more a Shared Flying Agreement and relates to the 330 fleet.

Yes. There are only two 767 variants for exam purposes. LH crew are certified on the RR (ex-BA) as well. The domestic and international configurations of the GE aircraft have minimal differences and for testing purposes are the same. The RR aircraft are quite different, but take only an extra couple of minutes to be revalidated on the extra door. The other differences are tested as part of the EP exam at no cost to the company outside the initial differences training, which was years ago. It costs the company very little for so much flexibility.

When I was at LH, I operated a domestic GE to NOU. And a domestic GE was subbed for a 747 PER-SYD, operated by LH crew. The RR aircraft did Tasman runs pre-2004.

Crew that operate under part two of the LH agreement. That is, crew employed by QCCA and QAL domestic and international (main fleet) cabin crew on a two year secondment to the 380. Some crew also hold 747 endorsement for ad hoc requirements. This happened when the 380 was grounded and Qantas retrained a portion of crew (who previously held 747 endorsement) to be used on the 747 fleet. These crew maintain their 747 endorsement for flexibility purposes.

Can you clarify this? My understanding was that A380 crew were originally planned to be dedicated to the A380, more as a workplace relations measure than anything else. Obviously, the A380 grounding would have required this strategy to change up. So is there a separation between LH part 2 and other long haul - can you get a mixed crew in a 747?

After a Qantas Boeing 747-400 arrived to Brisbane from Dallas, which LH or SH crew will fly from BNE to SYD?

QCCA (who employ cabin crew under part 2 of the LH agreement) was set up in 2008 to provide more efficient labour to Qantas for its international operations. QCCA cabin crew operated across the LH 763, 330 and 747 fleet beside QAL cabin crew and some were even promoted to CSS and CSM.

It was announced that the A380 would operate as a separate pool of cabin crew, with crew employed by QCCA or on secondment from QAL (initially LH and now SH). QCCA crew were moved across as more A380s were delivered. The last QCCA operating the LH fleet transferred to the A380 around Dec 2011. Due to the A380 grounding in 2009, some QCCA crew who had previously flown on the 747 regained 747 endorsement. The dual endorsed crew retain their 747 endorsement at this time. I believe all QCCA crew who have transferred from LH to A380 since the grounding have had to keep their 747 endorsement. QAL on secondment can choose whether or not to keep their 747 endorsement. Dual endorsed crew are not often used on the 747 and are only used in unplanned circumstances (747 flying will not appear on one's roster).

Quoting thegeek (Reply 14):

See above. QCCA crew who operated within the LH fleet operated as a LH cabin crew member (although could not bid for their trips - just days off and training days). You did get mixed crews as they were all part of the same pool of crew. If a QCCA crew member was called for a 747 trip they would be working with mostly (probably all) QAL LH crew.

So in other airlines parlance:
QCCA = B pay scale cabin crew
QAL = A pay scale cabin crew

How many times do experienced QF flight attendants training a year? I mean that they need to sit for the exam about the cabin and safety issue and so on.
