Royal Jordanian & Gulf Air: New Partnership?

Sat May 19, 2012 11:45 pm

According to the below article, Royal Jordanian and Gulf Air have entered a 'full codeshare agreement' (explained fully in the article).

The article provides some interesting, and varying, views regarding this and certainly raises the question of whether Royal Jordanian and Gulf Air will eventually enter into some form of 'partnership'.

What does everyone else think of this step taken by both of these airlines?

I think Gulf Air is in a huge mess, it lost so much money (billions of dollars) even during the boom years of the mid 2000s. It also lost all confidence in it by the public and customers. Even the parliament is blocking a lifeline and it seems just enough money will be pumped to sustain the airline till years end.

It's a pitty. All my travels are on Low cost and efficient Bahrain Air. Gulf Air had become synonymous with flight delays, old aircraft, horrible horrible food and embezzlement.

Very sad. Gulf Air used to be the leader and ranked along British Airways and Cathay Pacific. Not until the government naively handed the management of the airline to locals who had good intentions but knew nothing of running an airline.

It's difficult to say but the only option left is liquidation given airlines' finances globally and the civil unrest in Bahrain which will make it difficult for anyone to take interest and invest into GF.

Government should form a new private sector driven full service airline and sufficiently capitalized perhaps with Saudi Investors participating. Start from scratch.

I would rather see RJ form a codeshare partnership with EY.

I agree, but the fact is EY not interesting to codeshare partnership with RJ.

I dont see codesharing between AMM-BAH only could benefit both, unless codeshare expand beyond both hub. And I dont get the meaning how the new agreement at this moment could facilitates both airlines to streamline operations in the interest of serving our passengers!!!!!

when I look into North American, RJ operating to YUL, DTW, ORD, JFK while GF NIL! GF passenger could fly from BAH to AMM and connect with RJ to North American destinations.
For Asia, RJ operating to DEL, BOM, CMB, BKK, KUL, HKG while GF operating to BKK, KUL, MNL, DAC, KTM, BOM, CHennai and Kochi.
Heading west bound seem logical connect through AMM, but for east bound it's through RJ or GF is a question!
Cheers

I would accept a merger as well. I just hope that EY doesn't end up in Skypiles.

Merger would be just one of the option but i trust it's difficult to happen no matter on RJ/GF or RJ/EY!
