Why is ANA getting new Boeing 777-200ER's??? Why not the 77W?
Is it compensation for the 787 delays?

Thanks

According to the remarks on the photograph it is a loaner for being the launch customer for the 787.

I think they're getting five of them, and I don't think they are loaners - they were ordered in 2009.

The first one was delivered last month:

- Indeed, seat count on this new machine indicated it is for domestic use.

This must be the 1st 777-200ER delivery for some time, possibly since BA took there last a few years back?

Good to see some B777s with engines other than GE90s being delivered.

BA's last 777-2 (G-YMMU) was delivered 31-07-2009. Continental had a 777-2 (N77022) delivered 01-10-2010.

None of their 777-300ERs are configured for domestic operations. A good number of 787s are along with 777-200s and 777-300s, but the 777-300ERs are for long haul. This 777-200 has over 400 seats!

If it's the same configuration as their other very high-density domestic 772s, it has 405 seats, 21 J (2-3-2) and 384 Y 10-abreast (3-4-3). Their domestic 773s have 514 seats (21 J and 493 Y).

Oh I'm sure this is order was influenced by delays to the 787 and the cancellation of the 787-3.

But if NH couldn't use them, they wouldn't have taken them and now instead of just handing over a couple hundred million in cash, Boeing has secured a nice long-term revenue stream and kept two production lines busy.

For starters, the 772s & 763s are need to replace the aging 744Ds & 763s and for expansion due to late deliveries of the 787s. How much discount they received only the bean counters at NH & Boeing know.
The 773ER in a domestic configuration would have wing span issues at NH's Terminal 2 at Haneda.
A 772 or 773 would not offer much utility, to say for example, if in the future a 400 or 500-seat capacity airplane is too much for the domestic market. Therefore a 772ER would be a logical choice, if the 405 seats become too much for the domestic market, they could re-configure the interior and re-certify at its maximum gross weight and fly international routes.
There is no wingspan issues with the 772ER, as it is the same as non-ERs.
