As Condition No. 6 of the decision should make clear, the decision pertains to codeshares. I'm not sure what you see that makes you think that either carrier would be operating in AC colors as opposed to UA or US colors (or, in the case of the SF3s, 9L house colors).

From the link... "Accordingly, the Agency, pursuant to paragraph 60(1)(b) of the CTA and section 8.2 of the ATR, approves the use by Air Canada of aircraft and flight crew provided by Colgan and CommutAir, and the provision by Colgan and CommutAir of such aircraft and flight crew to Air Canada, to permit Air Canada to provide its scheduled international services on licensed routes between Canada and the United States of America by selling transportation in its own name on flights operated by Colgan and CommutAir between Canada and the United States of America, including between points in the United States of America, for an indefinite period from the date of this Decision."

It sure looks like Air Canada has applied to use flights on Colgan and CommutAir for flights between Canada and the United States and within the United States on AC flight numbers.

Right - but what in there suggests that this is anything other than placing AC flight numbers on existing UA* and US* flying?

My understanding is that this is part of the AC/UA rationalization of transborder flights. Some will operate as UA flights with AC codeshares, and others will be AC flights with UA codeshares.

I thought that they already did this on some flights between YYZ and EWR. How would this be different?

It means that 9L can legally operate AC flights with UA codeshare. Right now they can only operate UA flights with AC codeshare.

I think the big difference, is that this is of CO origin, as opposed to UA origin. And as the CO/UA merger continues, there will be further rationalizations in these code-shares.

But everyone here is accurate, in that no new flights will result, just that the AC code-share will now be added to some Colgan flights.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

As a AC is publicly traded company a major deal with a new carrier would be announced via a public filing -- one would never just stumble upon it via a Canadian Transportation Agency document.

What remains unanswered is the possibility that AC could through this code-share use Colgan for much of their regional trans-border flying. The thinking being Colgan cycling back and forth to USA destinations via YYZ,ie,CLE-YYZ-DTW,etc. That's assuming Colgan is under a CPA with UA on the trans-border flights and AC is just code-sharing.

This is nothing more than standard code-sharing procedures. Don't read anything more into this. There is no major shift going to Colgan or any other carrier!

Plus I hate to rain on your parade, but after 2012 9L will no longer exist. I know that as fact...

Well that'll be interesting because the OLA will be applicable to Colgan as well so unless they're gonna teach their FAs to speak french I doubt this will happen. Should the government exempt Colgan then Jazz should have grounds for exclusion as well..

No. The Official Languages Act only applies to subsidiaries, as defined in The Air Canada Public Participation Act. Hence it doesn't apply to LH, NZ, UA or any other codeshare partner.

Correct for code share, now if they were a CPA like Jazz it would most def be applicable...that's what I meant. If this is code share, then who cares.
