Yes D-ABYA is flying out as the early LH416 on its first day (01JUN). But returning as the LH419. Subsequently it will take over the lunchtime departure from FRA with the LH418/419 rotation.

Exception on 04/05JUN where a B744 is due back on a rotation to IAD due to special circumstances (EURO2012 football). The B74H is needed somewhere else for a day

Sang- und klanglos ist what Germans would probably describe the 748s introduction as.

It's hard to keep abreast with the latest developments of the 748 as an aviation enthusiast. I don't know anybody outside these circles that has even heard of the plane. When the A380 entered service every child in Germany knew about it.

The 748 is an airplane ''you walk past'', as a friend of mine put it. Nothing spectacular. But they [LH] could have at least put a little more effort into making it such..

What? If you said it about the 77W, fine, but the 748I is a stunner.
I am also negatively surprised how little LH makes of the service start of what is likely to become their most important widebody (there will be more than A380s). Sad, as its the last VLA introduction for at least a decade. And anything but a VLA is of no interest to the public.

It's not an ugly aircraft but you need to take a second look to tell it apart from a 744. Which has much better proportions too, by the way. That's what I mean by ''you walk past it''. It doesn't strike you as something collosal, new or different. The A380 in all its ugliness does that very much so.

They had one ridiculous contest and a little reference in their newsletters and on their website. But they're all advertising the new business class more than the aircraft itself. They didn't even run a promotion with discounted tickets, no sightseeing flights, no flight training and low approaches and touch and gos and airport visits like the A380 did.

I maintain public interest in the A380 would always be higher as it's a completely new, much bigger plane. But that shouldn't have meant for LH to ignore the 748 entirely..

Agree. I'm also very disappointed about their 747-8i marketing.

But due to the turbulences in european business LH may not in the mood to make a more aggressive campaign. Anyway, it's a shame that the 747-8i takes the blame.

They don't ignore it entirely. On June 4th the 748 will operate FRA-GDN route taking the German football team for the Euro 2012 which I am sure will be highly publicised event.

What a waste of rubber on the wheels for that short distance!!!   The German football team was lucky to take the A380 to J'burg 2 years ago and now for a 9.6% of the distance (FRA-JNB) to use the B748!!! Those lucky b.........   Little off topic: but after there last performance last week I would have sent them by train in 2nd Class

I'm sure if they did that, many here would mock them and call them desperate to make an impression.

Besides, one of the hoped advantages of the plane would be no need for lots of flight training, etc.

In this area, we'd say that they should travel by Chinatown bus!

Only will take a second if you are a enthusiast. But sure many will not notice the difference, no winglets like the 744 but only say: Hey, there's a Jumbo Jet cause of the upper deck!! It's hard not to listen when amateurs talk at the airport about planes and things... Now I know why my hair is getting slowly gray

Have you read some of the posts of here lately? From "amateur experts"?????

I think the airplane will be a sleeper. Little fan fare but a real dependanty aircraft.
