Final Lap For AeroSvit?

Wed May 30, 2012 8:05 am

According to Check-in.dk, Aerosvit's newest Boeing 737-800 was refused to leave KEF after refueling on its delivery flight from Boeing to AeroSvit in Ukraine. The article states that Boeing refused to hand over the aircraft to AeroSvit due to payment issues and that the aircraft was grounded on Iceland.
UR-AAO

AEW251 @ 2012-05-30 06:26 CET from KBP to VNO.
AEW252 @ 2012-05-30 06:20 CET from VNO to KBP.
AEW2701 @ 2012-05-26 03:10 CET from BFI to KEF.

Both Cimber Sterling and Skyways went bankrupt this month, drastically reducing Kolomoysky’s airline imperium. With this recent incident and the reports of increasingly challenging economical performance for AeroSvit, is this the beginning of the end for the airline?

Isn't the airline still partly owned by the Ukraine?

I would expect Air Baltic to go under long before Aerosvit.

I wonder if Kolomoysky will close down all of the airlines that he owns. As far as I know, Windrose is a profitable airline. Dont know about Donbassaero and Dniproavia though.

As far as I know, Donbassaero and Dniproavia was merged to Aerosvit and now they are one airline.

If Aerosvit will stop operations before EURO2012, it should become an issue with the connections to EURO2012 cities. European airlines will hardly can fill up the gaps due to quite strict bilateral agreements and "Wizz Air Ukraine" or "Ukraine International" technically will have no capacity.

Anyway, I do not see Ukraine government should let die Aerosvit.

What do you mean by that? They do a lot of codeshare flights for each other, but they are still separate airlines owned by the same owner to my knowledge

And yes - new B738 UR-AAO made a rotation KBP-VNO-KBP last night. So maybe it was more procedure issue why it could be stopped in KEF.

From what I have read and understand, it is a private airline owned by the "Private Group" through Mansvell Enterprises Ltd and the Ukrainian businessman Ihor Kolomoyskyi who also owned Skyways and Cimber Sterling.

Ukraine International Airlines however was a state owned airline untill 2011 until the goverment sold out its 61.6% stake in the airline to UIA Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (59%), UIA Holding (26%), and Capital Investment Project (15%).

I saw their strategy document were those three airlines should finally merge in 2011. I am not sure was finalized or not, but , for example, network management and sales management teams were totally merged.

I know, that their had some branding challenges, because Dniproavia and Donbassaero were "pride" brands of Ukraine regions so they decided to leave that and make similar (but different colorite) aircraft paintings.

It could it be financially one airline with a few AOCs?

Well I am a pilot in the AeroSvit group, and AFAIK, they are still separate airlines. I am however, able to get ID tickets in the entire AeroSvit network

Last week an AeroSvit flight from CPH to KBP was reportedly denied leaving the gate at CPH due to unpaid airport fees.
It left CPH with some hours delay. AeroSvit does still operate into CPH, so they must have worked out the problem.

I don't know if it's final lap for AeroSvit, but it seems they are fairly cash-strapped at the moment.

It would be a major embarresment for Ukraine if the largest airline in the country should close down up to, or during EURO2012.

I hope they don't, aside of the travel chaos this would cause for Ukraine I've booked flights on them for September. Pretty concerning news tbh.

How did they leave Seattle without paying for the plane? Something doesn't add up.

title transfer and payment can happen anywhere Boeing and the customer agree on for tax or other auspicious reasons.. so maybe they asked for an Iceland delivery and didn't show up with the check.

Indeed. The "source" is clearly a load of old BS. The delivery flight left KEF as normal according to flight plan info:

ARCID/AEW2701
KBFI-BIKF-UKBB
REG/URAAO ACFT/B738 SEL/CQAS.

Nothing out of ordinary whatsoever.
