IB 3x Daily MIA-MAD?

Thu May 31, 2012 8:06 pm

Just checked the Miami airport departures schedule and noticed that IB is opertaing 3 flights to Madrid today. Is IB trying to increase service to Miami now as a reaction to TP's success and trying to drive that carrier out of the market? We know that IB/AA basically did that to UX.

Yet another 'miaintl' topic about IB/TP/MIA

Please note that LIS & MAD are different markets to/from MIA.
I did a quick search on iberia.com and could not find IB 3x daily flights, but found 2 operated by IB and another one by AA.

Seems that flight 6118 from yesterday is delayed for today's departure, thats why you see 3 flights today.

Not sure what you're seeing. IB only operates two daily flights on the MIA-MAD route, which are IB6118 and IB6122. AA also has one daily, AA68.

Flightstats shows only the three flights today. Could you perhaps post the link to where you are seeing 3xIB flights?

The markets tend to overlap alot and they both rely on the same feed. Alot of people that travel on the MIA-MAD route are going on to Portugal. So TP is stealing quite a few customers from IB. I was at the airport the otehr day and the TP check in was packed full of people including alot of buisness traffic, so obviously the route is preforming exceptionally well at least loads wise, i'm still not sure about the yields though. TP even changed their operating schedule from MIA to a daylight departure instead of the midnight one.

Not true. It has been the typical a.net groundless rumour.

IB had/have their own policy with the MIA fights irrespective of any Air Europa step and UX does the same.

It is absolutely true. I can't believe you are actually trying to argue that market forces don't exist.

IB/AA dumped a significant amount of extra capacity into Miami-Madrid and dumped low fares into the market - it has since removed that capacity (though most of it simply moved to MIABCN, rather than being totally eliminated) and shot fares up since Air Europa left. Coincidence? I think not. AA/IB accomplished what they wanted, sadly, but airline markets are survival of the fittest. Doubt UX will be around New York much longer, either. JFK service has been sporadic, even being suspended entirely for a while earlier this year.

That's how airline markets work, FYI.

I was waiting for you, Mark

If there is some a.net poster who loves make groundless rumour about MIA that's mah4546. Or you're a master of misrepresent or you enjoy trying attract attention.

Of course when UX left MIA the IB/AA fares shot up, it happens in every time a competitor leave its place! But UX decides drop MIA because their own expectations about the income performance and because they are the newest and the weakest between 2 airports which are oneworld hubs ...add to that MAD-MIA-MAD is extremely sensitive between low and high season and you get why UX leaves from the MIA market.

2 years ago you said me > I can't be "wrong" about my opinions on Air Europa's future on Miami-Madrid until we see what happens MIA: Official: 3 More European Route Announcements (by MAH4546 Jan 22 2010 in Civil Aviation) reply 68 ....now we know what happened and time has show you (and a few more) was wrong and I was right. By the way, on my last reply I asked you for getting some figures based on a sharp statement from you ...from February 8, 2010 I still wait for your response. But enough curious UX keeps JFK unlike MIA, don't ya think?
