Sad. I pray there are survivors. I'm listening to an Accra radio station.. says it crashed near a stadium. They fear deaths on the ground.

They are now saying it was an Allied Air Cargo jet taking off ..they have a 707 and a 727, the latter of which was the plane that crashed as mentioned in the first post. There are 14 deaths sadly, mostly from a bus or van it hit on the ground near the El Wak Sports stadium. I'm listening on the net to Radio XYZ in Accra.

Thats horrible news, very sad for those that died. Any more information as to what happened? Engine failure or a burst tire maybe?

Edit: Avherald is saying the plane was landing, however other reports say it was taking off. Any confirmation?

Sounds like it shouldn't have landed there at that time, or if an alternate wasn't possible, should've really applied the brakes. Sad to see this happen, RIP to everybody

Pics posted on Av Herald, looks like the crew should be OK, Av Herald reporting the 4 crew survived with injuries unknown.

They really overshot to end up where they did so must have really landed long or had no brakes at all.

This accident seems to parallel the WN accident at MDW some years ago. Aircraft lands in bad weather and is unable to stop. Aircraft leaves the runway, leaves the airport property, and impacts vehicles on a busy street nearby. Fatalities in the vehicles struck. Oddly enough, as in the WN accident, the plane is still mostly in one piece.

Sad to see lives lost in another accident, and may the victims R.I.P. Also sad to see a classic 727 lost in a crash. The 727 is probably my second favorite airliner (after the 747), and I wanna see them continuing to fly for as long as I'm around.

Another photo of the aircraft in question with its original operator. It was a late production 727-200, delivered to Pan Am May 26, 1982. Just had its 30th birthday last week. It was one of the last 20 or so passenger 727s built.

Spoilers are down (could they have leaked down?), flaps look like 35, does this model 727 have autobrake?

The crew of 4 survived and are receiving treatment at the airport clinic. The aircraft 5N-BJN is definitely a write off. May the souls of the 10 people who died in the mini van rest in perfect peace.

I was at the airport in ACC when this happened.

The airport closed only briefly. We took off about two hours after the accident. We could see some emergency vehicles and whatnot off the right side of the departure end of runway 21.
